Perhaps one of Quentin Tarantino's most famous films is Pulp Fiction, which in 1994 won the main award at the Cannes Film Festival. It was then that the young filmmaker acquired an army of fans, many of whom had not heard anything about their idol before.

The audience began to show an active interest in Tarantino's filmography and paid special attention to his debut work, released a couple of years earlier, the film Reservoir Dogs. The actors of this crime thriller subsequently gained great popularity and more than once took part in other films of the director.

About the plot

At the beginning of this story, eight men are relaxing in a small cafe, having a conversation about business. We are talking about Mr. White, Blue, Pink, Blond, Brown, Orange, Big Boss Joe Cabbot and Nice Guy Eddie Cabbot.

The men plan a big and risky heist, agreeing that the survivors will then gather in an abandoned warehouse. So, the characters begin the operation, but it goes extremely unsuccessfully - it becomes clear that a traitor has wound up in the company. The bandits are forced to suspect each other, but they want to get the truth. This is the plot of the film "Reservoir Dogs", the actors of which brilliantly coped with the roles assigned to them.

The birth of the project

The script for the thriller was written by Tarantino, being an employee of an ordinary American video rental. The guy did not expect to get a substantial budget for his picture, believing that he would have to shoot it on inexpensive 16mm black and white film. He also decided in advance on the people who will play in the Reservoir Dogs project. The actors, by the way, were not at all known to the general public: Quentin's relatives and friends.

The promising cinematographer managed to find an aspiring producer who was supposed to help him with organizational issues. It was Lawrence Bender. Further development of events depended on the will of chance. The producer was talking to his teacher, mentioning that he met the guy who wrote the brilliant script. Lawrence noted that the main roles will be played by a company far from the world of cinema. When the teacher asked who the new partners would like to see lead the cast, Bender admitted that they would be happy if the central image was assigned to an actor like Harvey Keitel.

Getting Started

Incredibly, Lawrence's interlocutor said that his wife is familiar with Harvey, and if she is interested in Tarantino's script, she will offer the celebrity to get acquainted with it. A few days later, the partners received a call from a well-known actor who said that he had read the script and would like to discuss it.

It turned out that Harvey Keitel was delighted with the work of Tarantino - he was ready not only to take on one of the leading roles, but also to act as a producer of the Reservoir Dogs project. The actors who played the main roles in the film were introduced to it also thanks to the idol and new friend of Quentin and Lawrence. Rumors of a potential hit spread fairly quickly, and it received a budget of $1.2 million. By the standards of Hollywood, this is very small, but still much more than an aspiring screenwriter and director could have imagined.

Key characters

The long-awaited shooting of the painting "Reservoir Dogs" soon began. The actors were very colorful - Tim Roth, Steve Buscemi, Lawrence Tierney, Edward Bunker, Chris Penn and others. It is noteworthy that David Duchovny also auditioned for one of the roles, who two years later began playing the main role in the series The X-Files.

Tarantino himself was not only the director and scriptwriter, but also the performer of the role of Mr. Brown in the Reservoir Dogs film. Michael Madsen, in turn, portrayed a tough guy, nicknamed Mr. Blond. The already mentioned Keitel appeared in the image of Mr. White. The entire team wore black suits and white shirts.

Premier

The production of the cult thriller took less than six months, but in the end, Reservoir Dogs was highly praised by film critics. The year 1992 was marked by a great triumph for the director, who was gaining momentum, because his debut was noticed, and he himself instantly gained star status. The audience especially noted the unusual manner of narration, which had not previously been very popular with Tarantino's colleagues.
