This article is a summary of "Oblomov" chapter by chapter. Ivan Alexandrovich Goncharov devoted ten years of his life to creating the plot of the novel. The writer's contemporaries spoke about the obvious paradox: the main character, endowed by the author with laziness brought to the highest limits, attracted close attention of the entire Russian society.

First part

The novel begins with a description of the interior of the dwelling, which is what the summary tells us about. "Oblomov" (1 chapter of the work, in particular) illuminates in detail to readers one day in the life of the landowner Ilya Ilyich Oblomov. Removable St. Petersburg four-room apartment. Three of the four rooms are non-residential. Ilya Ilyich almost never leaves the room, in which there are two sofas, a mahogany dressing table and several screens. He spends his day on one of the sofas: he eats, receives guests. After dinner falls into a drowsy state. The servant Zakhar is a little less lazy than the master. In the apartment - dust, dirt, stains, but this is not at all burdensomeOblomov himself.

Summary chapter by chapter introduces us to the unfolding events. In the second chapter, the reader meets visitors - friends of the landowner: Alekseev, Volkov, Penkin, Sudbinsky. All of them are trying to captivate Ilya Ilyich with their plans. They want him to follow them. But their attempts are in vain. For Oblomov, any business or undertaking is initially uninteresting.

Summary of "Oblomov" in chapters III and IV introduces us to another guest of the landowner - Mikhei Andreyevich Tarantiev. He is both a chatterbox and a swindler, seeking to seize the property of Ilya Ilyich. At stake is property worth tens of thousands of rubles. Allegedly taking care of Oblomov's well-being, Tarantiev convinces him to move to the Vyborg side and promises to introduce him to his godfather Agafya Pshenitsyna. In fact, he is carrying out a joint plan with Mukhoyarov, Agafya's brother, to ruin Ilya Ilyich.

The fifth and sixth chapters take us back twelve years to the young Oblomov's attempts to make a career in St. Petersburg. The hereditary nobleman had the rank of collegiate secretary. However, he was afraid of the authorities to such an extent that, having mistakenly sent a letter instead of Astrakhan to Arkhangelsk, he got scared and quit his service. And for more than ten years he has been idle. From the village of Oblomovka, his estate, he receives less and less income - the clerk steals. But Oblomov lacks the determination to reorganize his economy so that it becomes profitable.

The seventh and eighth chapters tell in more detail about Oblomov's servant -Zahara. This is an old school lackey. He is honest, devoted to his master, as was customary among courtyards in the last century. Taking care of Oblomov's interests, Zakhar does not goof off with the rogue Tarantiev. But at the same time, the laziness of the master, as in a mirror, was reflected in him.

The ninth chapter of the novel "Oblomov" is special, key. After all, it fragmentarily shows the inferiority of raising a child by parents-landlords. The dream consists of three visions. First: a seven-year-old boy in the Oblomov estate of his parents. He is surrounded by petty guardianship, he is instilled with a cult of idleness. The second episode of sleep is the nanny's story of fairy tales and epics. The landowner Oblomov lives in their virtual world, the world of real affairs for him becomes boring from childhood. The third episode of sleep: studying in elementary school. Teacher - Ivan Bogdanovich Stolz, German, clerk. Together with Ilyusha, the son of the teacher, Andrey, studies. They are both active and dynamic. The study did not bring up an active person from the landowner's son, since all the other people in his environment, except for the Stoltsev, lead a lazy, drowsy lifestyle.

The tenth, eleventh chapters are ironic about the dirt in Oblomov's apartment. While he sleeps, the servant Zakhar either gossips with his neighbors or goes to drink beer. Moreover, when he returns, he finds the owner still sleeping.

Second part

The reader is Andrey Ivanovich Stolz. A dynamic and positive character finally flows into the summary of Oblomov chapter by chapter (as, of course, into the novel itself). Andrei graduated from the university, having received a rank equivalent to the rank of colonel, according to the table of ranks, he served as a lawyer. Retired atAt the age of 30, he went into business. He is sent on especially important missions to Europe, entrusted with the development of projects.

Third-fifth chapters of the second part are devoted to the efforts of Stolz to stir up Oblomov, awaken his interest in life. Andrei Ivanovich drew up a plan to help a friend: first, go abroad with him, then set things right in the village, then apply for a position and service. He introduced a friend to Olga Ilyinskaya. Ilya Ilyich fell in love with this woman. Stolz went on a business trip, having agreed with Oblomov to meet in London, and then travel together. But Oblomov did not leave Russia. The sixth and seventh chapters trace the development of Oblomov's feelings for Olga Ilyinskaya, a declaration of love to her and an offer to marry. And here the summary of Oblomov describes a classic love story chapter by chapter.

Third part

The mutual feeling of Ilya Oblomov and Olga Ilyina flares up. Olga is ready to get married. But when the time comes for decisive actions, Oblomov’s love begins to be counteracted by his inherent inertia, notes of fear slip through his thoughts, “what will others think.” At the same time, Mikhey Andreevich Tarantiev, "courting" the protagonist, gets his signature under an enslaving contract for renting a new apartment on the Vyborg side. He also introduces Oblomov to his godfather Agafya Pshenitsyna. Agafya's brother, Ivan Matveevich Mukhoyarov, in fact "plays the same game" with Tarantiev, wanting to cash in on the protagonist's property by deceit. Mukhoyarov convinces the visitorsister Ilya Ilyich in need of a trip to her patrimony - the village of Oblomovka, in order to improve economic affairs. Oblomov falls ill.

Fourth part

Having fallen ill, Oblomov remains in the house of Agafya Pshenitsyna, who fell in love with him and takes care of him from the bottom of her heart. A woman in love even pawns her jewels so that Ilya Ilyich is fed and strengthened. Having agreed, Ivan Matveevich Mukhoyarov and Mikhei Andreevich Tarantyev decide on deceit and forgery. Having frightened Oblomov with the compromise of his extramarital relationship with Pshenitsyna, they take from him a receipt for 10,000 rubles. Agafya, blindly believing her brother, signs a debt in his name for the same 10,000 rubles.

Stolz meets Ilyinskaya in Paris, takes care of her. A mutual feeling flares up, the lovers get married. Then Stolz returns to Russia, arrives on the Vyborg side to Oblomov and actively helps his friend. He temporarily rents Oblomovka, drives out the thief-clerk Zatertoy, a protege of Mukhoyarov. He also learns about Oblomov's receipt. The next day, the general, informed by him, expels Mukhoyarov from service. Tarantiev is on the run.

Oblomov's well-being has improved, but the disease is progressing. Soon he suffers an apoplexy, and then death. About raising a common son with Agafya - Andryusha, he asks Stolz just before his death. For Agafya, with the departure of Ilya Ilyich, life lost its meaning, as if "the heart was taken out of the chest." The faithful servant Zakhar chose to beg, visiting the grave of the master, but not to return to Oblomovka. Mukhoyarov's wife is in charge of Agafya's house. However, a glimmer of hopestill illuminates the ending of the novel. Andryusha Oblomov, having found a second family, will undoubtedly receive a proper upbringing, and his life will become more meaningful.
