History

The Snuffbox Theatre, the photo of the building of which is presented in this article, began its existence in 1978. Its creators are the actor and director O. P. Tabakov and artist D. Borovsky. It was they who found a basement for the theater in a residential building on Chaplygin Street. Pupils and teachers of the workshop of Oleg Pavlovich in GITIS cleaned the garbage with their own hands and painted the future refuge. The hall was very small, it included only 10 rows. Initially, it was a theater studio led by Oleg Tabakov. Then she changed her name. Developed into the theater "Snuffbox".

The troupe was determined back in 1974. It was then that Oleg Pavlovich chose teenagers to study in his studio. Children studied under the program of a theater university, they were taught several subjects: stage movement, acting, sketches, speech, etc.

The most talented students O. Tabakovinvited to his first course at GITIS. It was these graduates who made up the first troupe of the Snuffbox. Among them were: Elena Mayorova, Andrey Smolyakov, Sergey Gazarov, Larisa Kuznetsova, Igor Nefyodov and others.

The first performance of "Snuffbox" was based on the play "And in the spring I will return to you …". The young team immediately became popular. The audience loved him. But the Soviet authorities remained indifferent to him. The theater refused all requests. As a result of this, the artists wandered around other people's stages. As a result, Oleg Pavlovich was forced to attach his actors to various theaters of the capital. After that, he recruited a second year of students at GITIS. Of these, the second troupe was formed.

The Snuffbox Theater has returned to its basement. Rehearsals have already begun with a new cast. In 1987, Oleg Pavlovich Tabakov achieved the status of a state theater for his theater. The "Snuffbox" troupe has been replenished for many years mainly by graduates of Oleg Pavlovich. So, at one time such personalities as Vladimir Mashkov, Sergey Bezrukov, Evgeny Mironov, Yana Sexte, Olga Krasko and others came here. The first three broke into the cultural life of the country brightly, swiftly and forever.
