Vincenzo Natali was born in Detroit, Michigan, the son of a photographer and kindergarten teacher. Vincenzo has Italian and English roots. His family moved to Toronto when the boy was only one year old.

As a child, Natalie became friends with British-Canadian actor David Hewlett, who later starred in most of Natalie's films. Natalie also participated in the film program at Ryerson University. He was eventually hired as a storyboard artist by animation studio Nelvana.

Debut

Natalie made his directorial debut in 1997 with the film "Cube". The film was a success all over the world, especially in Japan and France. He raised $15 million in France and made a lot of money in Canada. At the 19th Genie Awards, the film received five nominations and won Best Canadian Film at the Toronto International Film Festival. After this success, the filmography of Vincenzo Natali was replenished with such tapes as"Coder" (2002) and "Nothing" (2003).

Further career

After the release of Chimera in June 2010, Natalie decided to channel her creative efforts into an adaptation of J. G. Ballard's novel Tall Rise and a 3D adaptation of Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson's comic book Swamp Teen for producer Joel Silver.

Joseph Kahn is now directing the highly anticipated adaptation of cyberpunk author William Gibson, making a film based on the 1984 book Neuromancer. Vincenzo Natali was also nominated for the 4th Annual Splatcademy Award for Best Director by Cadaver Lab for Chimera.

Work on series

In 2013, his series Darknet (an adaptation of the Japanese Tori Hada series) began airing on Super Channel in Canada. The Cube is a 1997 Canadian science fiction horror film directed and co-written by Vincenzo. It tells of a group of people traversing industrial cubic rooms, some of which contain various traps designed to kill.

The Cube gained fame and became a cult film for its surreal atmosphere, Kafkaesque spirit and concept of industrial cubic spaces. The film received polar reviews from critics and spawned two rather low-quality sequels, no longer directed by Vincenzo Natali. A Lionsgate remake is in the works.

It won the Best Canadian Feature Film award at the 1997 Toronto International Film Festival and the Silver Crow Award at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival.

On one of the top film critic websites, "Cube" has a score of 62% based on 37 reviews, with a weighted average score of 6.3/10. On Metacritic, the film has a score of 61 out of 100, based on 12 reviews, showing generally favorable reviews.

Electric Sheep and Empire Online critics gave the film positive reviews, while online Nitrate and San Francisco Chronicle critics smashed it to smithereens. Critics praised the film's interesting plot and unique art design.

The Coder (also known as Brainstorm) is a 2002 science fiction thriller starring Jeremy Northam and Lucy Liu. The screenplay was written by Brian King and directed by Vincenzo Natali.

Jeremy Northam plays an accountant whose hope of a career in corporate espionage takes an unexpected turn. The film was released theatrically in the United States and Australia and was released on DVD on August 2, 2005. It received mixed reviews and Northam was awarded Best Actor at the Sitges Film Festival.

Chimera

Chimera is a 2009 Canadian-French fantasy horror film. Directed by Vincenzo Natali and starring Adrien Brody, Sarah Polley and Delphine Chaneac.

The tape tells of genetic engineering experiments carried out by a pair of young scientists trying to incorporate human DNA into their work of splicing animal genes. Guillermo del Toro, Don Murphy and Joel Silver are executive producers of the film.

Limbo

Limbo is a 2013 Canadian horror film directed by Vincenzo Natali and written by Brian King. Starring Abigail Breslin. Premiered at the 2013 South by Southwest Film Festival.
