On cold winter evenings, when the cold is raging outside the window, and the frost binds not only the windows, but also the soul with tenacious fingers, you really want something “such” to raise your vitality. Someone is saved by chocolates and hot coffee, someone - by books and a warm blanket, someone - by heart-to-heart talks with loved ones. There are a lot of options to improve your mood, and one of them is watching good positive films.
What does positive mean?
First of all, let's figure it out: what are positive ones? Are these hilarious comedies, during which the viewer does not stop laughing until the stomach cramps? Of course, but not only. Positive films - including those where events (even if they did not develop very positively before) eventually lead to a happy ending. Everyone is alive, he althy, happy - isn't that positive? Of course he is. Thus, drama, melodrama, and other genres can be safely considered positive films - with a certain (good!) ending.
Shurik, Coward,Dunce, Experienced and their adventures
Perhaps the first name that comes to mind in Russian cinema is Leonid Gaidai. That's really who knew how to make really positive films - stories that more than one generation laughs at and empathizes with, which make you think and leave a bright mark on your soul. The famous trinity, played by the great artists Morgunov, Vitsin and Nikulin, is not known, perhaps, only by a baby. As well as Shurik - a shy, a little naive boy-klutz, brilliantly performed by Alexander Demyanenko. Films telling about the adventures of Shurik and the beautiful trinity are called “Partner”, “Delusion” and “Operation Y”, and all together they are united under the general title - “Operation Y” and Shurik's Other Adventures.
The picture was released in 1965 and broke all records for views and audience love. The plots of the three films, united by one hero, do not touch in any way. In "Partner" student Shurik, a typical "nerd", works part-time at a construction site, paired with a hooligan Fedya, who is serving his sentence there. Fedya Shurik immediately evokes negative emotions, and he, in turn, diligently tries to re-educate the bully. A real war begins - but it is not difficult to guess which side will win it.
"Obsession" tells about Shurik's acquaintance with the girl Lida, a friend of his friend. After a walk, Shurik finds himself at Lida's house and suddenly realizes that the French expression "déjà vu"close to him, as never before - in this apartment he knows everything to the smallest detail … Where did it come from?
In "Operation "Y"", in addition to Shurik, a brilliant trinity enters the stage - here Coward, Dunce and Experienced act as crooks who were supposed to stage a robbery of a warehouse. Everything would have gone well - if not for Shurik, who met the scammers at the most inopportune time …
A few words about Mymra
The immortal work of Eldar Ryazanov "Office Romance" should certainly be attributed to the good positive films shot in our country. Who does not remember the melodramatic exclamation "Mymra!", addressed to the main character! She was played, by the way, and wonderfully, by the beautiful Leningrad artist Alisa Freindlich.
The film, based on the play by Emil Braginsky and Eldar Ryazanov, was presented to the audience in 1977 and instantly gained popularity. The phrases from the picture instantly scattered across the country, overnight becoming winged, and a surge of people's love turned not only towards the film, but also to the actors who played the main roles in it. Alisa Freindlich, who lives in St. Petersburg, then, by the way, had a hard time: every day she had to travel from one city to another: in Moscow, the film was being shot, in St. Petersburg - performances at the Lensoviet Theater, where she was the leading actress.
The plot of "Office Romance" is rather trivial, but no less interesting: a downtrodden nerd falls in love with his boss, Mymra, who is angry, rude, and doesn't look after herself very well. He manages to see in her her soul, her real face, and under the pressure of his feelings, the formerMymra is changing - unexpectedly for everyone and for herself … The message that the authors of the picture wanted to convey is both simple and very deep. Thus, Ryazanov's tape has every right to be called a positive film with meaning.
What men talk about
This is the name of one of the pictures of the Moscow theater "Quartet I" - by the way, it has already been released in several parts. This is a funny tape about the adventures and conversations of four friends, which is quite capable of brightening up the gray days. But in more detail it is better to dwell on the first cinematic experience of this team - Radio Day, which is rightfully included in the list of the best positive films.
It was filmed based on the performance of the same name, which the "quartet players" showed to the public with indispensable success. The film was released in 2008. Leonid Barats and Rostislav Khait, one of the members of the Quartet, became the authors of the script - and, along with two of their colleagues, played the main roles in the film. In addition to the Quartet and other actors, various musicians are also involved in the film - the groups Nogu Svelo, Night Snipers, Mumiy Troll, Accident, Chaif and others. They all play themselves, and their songs are featured on the film's soundtrack.
The plot of the tape revolves around the events at the radio station "Like Radio". During a live broadcast, an emergency occurs at the studio, and employees have to mobilize all their capabilities to get out of the situation. A situation that initially seemed like a joke suddenly takes a completely different turn…
Likeall other film and theatrical works of the Quartet I, this tape is generously seasoned with humor, which does not let the most fastidious viewer get bored. And fans of Russian rock and pop-rock will absolutely love it. Thus, this is a completely positive Russian film of our time.
Woody Allen Masterpieces
There are many big names in Hollywood - both among actors and directors. To list them all is not enough life. But, speaking of positive films to cheer up, one cannot fail to mention the wonderful master - Woody Allen. Despite his rather respectable age, the director consistently shoots new tapes, many of which he himself plays. His work is by no means only comedy, Allen is a versatile director. But in whatever genre he shoots, each of his paintings leaves behind a pleasant aftertaste and bright feelings. One such film is Midnight in Paris, released in 2011.
The plot tells about a young but already well-known Hollywood screenwriter who flew to Paris with his fiancee to visit her parents. The protagonist's fiancee (played by Rachel McAdams) is pragmatic, capricious, arrogant, dependent on public opinion, while he himself (played brilliantly by Owen Wilson) is romantic, dreamy and prefers the heart over the mind. On a lonely night walk in Paris, he meets a cheerful company of young people who offer him a ride with them. So the hero miraculously falls into the twentiesof the last century (a period that he often dreamed about) and gets to know his idols - Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Dali …
Although the film has some light subtle humor (it is impossible to imagine a single Allen tape without it), it is not a comedy. Rather, it is a melodrama, headlong into the romance of the early twentieth century. And the beautiful views of the French capital do contribute to the creation of a romantic, positive mood.
Hollywood's top comedian
This is, of course, Jim Carrey. That's really in whose professional piggy bank there are many comedies! Being in search of positive funny films, you can safely include a picture with Kerry in the title role - and a good mood is guaranteed. The list of his works is huge, including the recognized masterpiece - "The Mask" in 1994.
The tape was filmed based on the comics of the same name and became not only one of Carrey's best works, but also the debut of a beautiful actress - Cameron Diaz. For Jim Carrey, The Mask was the film that brought him phenomenal success. The Hollywood comedian played here a bank employee, the so-called little man. Humiliation pours on him from all sides, but he is kind and does not return evil for evil. However, an amazing mask falls into his hands, capable of changing the one who puts it on, endowing him with unusual abilities. Thus begins the adventures of humble clerk Stanley…
Please take care of this bear
Four years ago, the film "The Adventures of Paddington" was released - it would seem for a children's audience, but nevertheless catchy for adults. Incredibly touching, light andkind, he can rightfully take a place in the list of the best positive films.
A bear cub named Paddington arrives in London - his relatives have wanted to go there all his life. He is an amazingly smart and sociable bear, and therefore instantly finds friends for himself - the Brown family, which has become a family for him too. During the film, the bear will have many adventures, sometimes exciting and dangerous, but in the end everything will end well. This bright film leaves a feeling of joy and teaches goodness - not only to small viewers. By the way, this year the second part of the adventures of a funny bear cub was released.
In the footsteps of "Abba"
The Swedish band ABBA was incredibly popular at the time. What's there - even now, when the band broke up a long time ago, his songs are alive and resonate in the hearts of listeners. This is probably why, in 2008, director Phyllida Lloyd presented the audience with a wonderful musical with their favorite songs of this group - “Mamma mia!”, One of the list of light positive films.
The plot of the tape is as follows: the hostess of a tavern on a small Greek island is preparing to marry her only daughter. The girl grew up without a father and really wants to know who he is - after all, it is the father who, according to tradition, must take his daughter to the altar. It suddenly turns out that the girl's mother does not know this either - she has as many as three prospective candidates! Without thinking twice, the young bride sends out wedding invitations to all three…
And in my soul I dance
This is the title of a 2004 film by Irish director Damien O'Donnell. One of the main roles in it was played by James McAvoy, who received huge popularity after that.
The film tells about the twenty-four-year-old invalid Michael. He has cerebral palsy and lives in a home for the disabled. There are no joys in his life until he meets a new patient - Rory (he was played by McEvoy). Rory is also disabled, but his outlook on life is completely different from Michael's. It is Rory who will teach a new friend to love this world…
Despite the apparent tragedy (a film about the disabled!), the tape is not heavy at all. Rather, it is a bright picture that shows how important it is to look at the world positively, not to give up, to accept life and yourself in it as you are. O'Donnell's tape is life-affirming, and therefore deserves to be on the list of interesting positive films. By the way, from the same movie series “1 + 1” (another translation is “The Untouchables”), as well as “And in my soul I dance”, leaving only warm feelings behind.
A little more about love
Positive films to cheer up, of course, include the tape "This Stupid Love", released in 2011 "from the pen" of Glenn Ficarra. This is a melodramatic comedy starring the charming humorist Steve Carell and the now at the peak of his popularity Ryan Gosling.
The plot of the film is quite simple: Cal (Carrell played him) leaves his wife. Filling his sadness in a bar, he meets Jacob (Gosling), a self-confident young man who does not know the end of the girls and decides to teach Cal how to be irresistible in the eyes of women - including in the eyes of his own wife. The film has a lot of both romantic and sparkling humorous episodes, so it will appeal to both those who like to worry and those who prefer to laugh.
Music around us
This is a phrase from a beautiful movie called "August Rush". It was released in 2007 and owes its appearance to director Kirsten Sheridan. The genre of the film is defined as drama and melodrama, but in the end everything ends happily.
The main character is the boy Evan, who is considered an orphan and therefore lives in an orphanage. Despite everything, Evan believes that his parents are alive, they were separated and one day they will find him. He also loves music, just like his parents. Music for Evan in everything: in the water, the wind, the rustling of the pages. He decides: if he makes music, he will definitely find his parents…
In this film, in addition to excellent acting (Evan, for example, was played by young Freddie Highmore, Louis, his father, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Lila, his mother, Keri Russell), there is also great music. The tape cannot be called a musical - but it is musical from beginning to end. It is the music (and, of course, a good ending) that gives the audience a positive mood and emotions.
Interesting facts
- A whole book has been written about Paddington Bear. Its author is Michael Bond, who became the screenwriter for both films and notwho lived very shortly before the release of the second part (he died in June 2017).

This is just a tiny part of the positive films that exist in the cinema. However, each of these tapes is worthy to be seen. Happy viewing!
