Biography
Future ballerina Ulyana Lopatkina was born in 1973, on October 23rd. Her parents were teachers. She also has a younger brother named Eugene. The artist's birthplace is the city of Kerch, Crimea. All her childhood was spent on the Black Sea coast. Even in early childhood, the parents sent the girl to the ballet. Ulyana Lopatkina was engaged in choreographic circles, as well as in the gymnastics section. The artist received her education at the Academy of Russian Ballet named after Agrippina Yakovlevna Vaganova. She studied in the class of Professor N. Dudinskaya. Even in her student years, she won her first prize in the field of ballet.
Since 1991 she has been an artist of the Mariinsky Theatre. Here Ulyana's teachers were such outstanding personalities as Ninel Alexandrovna Kurgapkina and Olga Nikolaevna Moiseeva.
After 4 years of hard work, she became a prima. Her debut role was Odile/Odette in Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, which brought her first success. In 2001 Ulyana got married. Her husband was businessman and writer Vladimir Kornev. In 2002, the couple had a daughter, who was given the name Maria. In 2010, the couple divorced. Now, in addition to her career, Ulyana is actively involved in charity work. She chairs the Board of Trustees of the Cancer Prevention Foundation.
Over the years of her creative activity, Ulyana Lopatkina had a chance to work not only on the stage of the Mariinsky Theater, of which she is the prima ballerina. She also dances at many other famous venues in the country and the world. These are the GABD (Moscow), the Metropolitan Opera (New York), the Royal Opera House (London), La Scala (Milan), the Grand Opera (Paris), NHK (Tokyo), as well as the National Opera and Ballet Theater (Helsinki).
In the year 2010, the ballerina took part in the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Canada. In 2011, a gala concert dedicated to the memory of the great ballerina Galina Ulanova was held in London. Ulyana took in himparticipation.
