Childhood and youth

Krapivin Vladislav was born in 1938, on October 14, in the family of teachers Olga Petrovna and Petr Fedorovich Krapivin in the city of Tyumen. He was the third child of his parents. His father served as a priest in the Orthodox Church for a long time and moved to Siberia from Kirov (Vyatka), fleeing the inevitable repressions. This moment of family history was unknown to the writer until his very old age.

Even as a child, Vladislav Krapivin began to invent various entertainingstories with which he entertained his peers. In 1956, after graduating from school, the future writer entered the Gorky Ural State University at the Faculty of Journalism. As a student, he attended a literary circle under the leadership of V. N. Shustov, editor of the magazine "Ural Pathfinder".

After graduating from the second year, Krapivin entered the industrial practice in the newspaper "Komsomolskaya Pravda", where he worked in the department of student youth. There he met another important person for himself - the author of the pedagogy of cooperation Simon Soloveichik.

The beginning of literary activity

Krapivin Vladislav, by his own admission, in his work was greatly influenced by Konstantin Paustovsky. The author carefully studied the works of the eminent writer. In addition, in 1963, the novice writer studied under the guidance of Lev Kassil in the section of children's literature.

In 1960, in the spring, Krapivin's first story appeared in the publication "Ural Pathfinder". Even in his student years, he worked in the newspaper "Vecherny Sverdlovsk", then for several years he worked in the "Ural Pathfinder". The author's first book, Orion's Flight, was published in 1962. It was released by the Sverdlovsk publishing house.

Creative achievements

In 1964, Vladislav Krapivin was admitted to the Writers' Union of the USSR. The biography of this writer knows many creative achievements. So, in the 1970s-1980s, he was a member of the editorial boards of the publications "Ural Pathfinder" and "Pioneer". In 2007, the author returned to Tyumen, where he receivedthe title of professor at the Tyumen State University and studied with students at the school of literary skill. In 2011, on June 15, the Krapivin Museum appeared in Tyumen with an exposition called Warbler from Herzen Street. It includes things reminiscent of the work and life of the writer. In the fall of 2013, Vladislav Petrovich again moved to Yekaterinburg.

For his literary activity, Krapivin was published 200 times. His books have been translated into different languages of the world. Since 2006, the Krapivin International Literary Prize for Children has been established. Its chairman is Vladislav Petrovich himself.

Pedagogical concept

Krapivin Vladislav devoted a lot of time to teaching. The originality of his literary works cannot be understood without studying this aspect of his life. So, in 1961, the famous writer created in Sverdlovsk an uneven-aged children's detachment "Caravel", which in 1965 received the status of a separate (practically independent!) Pioneer squad. Caravella had its own oath-motto, which fully indicated the pedagogical orientation of this association: “I will fight any injustice, meanness and cruelty, wherever I meet them. I will not wait for someone to stand up for the truth before me.” In this detachment, Vladislav Krapivin brought up new romantic heroes - brave, disinterested, with a heightened sense of justice. These were the fearless heroes of the author's works.

In addition, Vladislav Petrovich considers childhooda special period in the life of every person, equal to maturity, youth and old age, upholds the principle of cooperation between generations and speaks of the need for the presence in the inner world of each child of some lofty idea. All these postulates are reflected in the writer's work.

Basic Works

Vladislav Krapivin, whose bibliography is very extensive, has been engaged in creative activity for fifty years. In 1998-2000 Tsentrpoligraf publishing house published a twenty-nine-volume collected works of the author. According to the literary critic S. B. Borisov, among all the books created by the writer, one can single out a layer of his works written in the period from 1965 to 1982. It was in him that the image-concept "Krapivinsky boys" was born. Some of the author's most striking works include:

  • "Valkin's friends and sails".
  • "Squire Kashka".
  • Shadow of the Caravel.
  • "Crane and Lightning".
  • "Escape of the Horned Vikings".
  • "Boy with a sword".
  • "Scarlet Arrow Feathers".
  • "Flying Carpet".
  • "Tales of Sevka Glushchenko".
  • "The Musketeer and the Fairy".

In addition, in the 1980s, Vladislav Petrovich began to write books of a fabulous-fiction direction. It was in this vein that he created a cycle of works under the general title “In the Depths of the Great Crystal.”

Realistic line

The works of Vladislav Krapivin were realistic until the end of the 1970s. At this time, he was committed to a romantic approach to storytelling. Swords, sails, drums areimmutable attributes of the author's works. Romance seethes in the blood of "Krapivinsky boys" who know how to dream and feel the call to adventure. In his books, the writer created an easily recognizable and original image of a teenager - a rebel, a rebel, a defender, a warrior and a romantic. He is distinguished by moral purity, self-esteem and justice. It is important that he has an active life position and is capable of a heroic deed. That is why the heroes of Krapivin often get into unpleasant stories in order to save someone or protect their own honor.

The brutal truth

In his works Vladislav Krapivin does not hide the cruel truth of life from his readers. His boys often come into conflict with others, sometimes they have skirmishes with hooligans or dangerous bandits. It happens that the heroes of the author even die: the third-grader Vorobyov in the story "That side where the wind" saves the kids at the cost of his life; the merciless beating of Vekshin Kirill ends "Lullaby for the brother." At the same time, the heroes rarely receive public recognition - Seryozha Kakhovsky, who joined the fight against the bandit group and protected the kids, is reprimanded at the council of the pioneer detachment. Such an outcome in the works of Krapivin is natural. His characters often become troublemakers, they are inconvenient for the outside world with their civic activity.

A world without adults

Krapivin Vladislav Petrovich is an adherent of the theory of cooperation between different generations. Heroes of the author - guysdifferent ages, but they are united by similar outlooks on life. In almost all of the writer's books, the elders take care of the younger ones ("Valkin's friends and sails", "That side where the wind is", "Lullaby for the brother", "Kashka's squire"). A teenager, as a rule, helps his little friend overcome the difficulty and pain of growing up. In fact, there are no adults in the world of Krapivin's heroes: their participation in the action is as limited as possible and often has a negative character. Teenagers, on the contrary, are wise friends and mentors who still remember their own helplessness in the face of evil and injustice and are invariably ready to help a weaker comrade.

Boy with a sword

The author's concept was most fully embodied in the trilogy called "Boy with a sword". This is one of his most famous non-fiction works. The story of the same name was published in 1974 in Pioneer magazine. Later, the writer Vladislav Krapivin created a trilogy, which included Flag Captains and Riders from Rosa Station. The central part of it was the story "The Finest Hour of Seryozha Kakhovsky". In 1981, the Boy with a Sword, beloved by everyone, was published as a separate book in the Golden Library collection series. Selected works for children and youth.”

The leading hero of the trilogy - Kakhovsky Seryozha - is one of those dreamers and eccentrics who will stop at nothing in the fight for justice. For her sake, he is ready to overcome anydifficulties, and therefore his collisions with himself and the world around him are not childishly dramatic.

Great Crystal World

As mentioned above, in the 1980s, the author Vladislav Krapivin began to write works of a fantastic direction. In this regard, a series of works called "In the depths of the Great Crystal" is indicative. In it, the writer created a whole cosmogonic world with its own history, religion, geography, metaphysics and physics. Vladislav Petrovich is even trying to map this fantastic place. The World of the Great Crystal, according to the author, is a multitude of living worlds that touch or pass into each other, existing in one "vertical time". It is inhabited mainly by children. There are few adults in it, they rarely play a decisive role in the development of events.

Favorite characters in Krapivin's works are "koivo" children (author's definition). These are border guard boys, endowed with the ability to penetrate other worlds. The plot of each of the stories of the cycle is based on the fate of one or more of these heroes.

Today

Today, the picture of the world in Krapivin's work has become much more complicated. The writer remained faithful to the principles of goodness and justice, but he realized the full power and vitality of evil. Now in his books there is disappointment, pain and death. The heroes of Vladislav Petrovich are sometimes accused of lack of mercy, forgetting that the author forces them to fight real evil, in the fight against which there can be no compromise.

The world of the Great Crystal created by Vladislav Krapivin is absolutely unique in modern Russian literature. The best books from this series are still reread with enthusiasm not only by children, but also by adults. A kind of continuation of this cycle were the works written by him in recent years - "Ships", "Perforated Moon", "Airplane named Seryozhka", "Orange portrait with speckles".
