The director and screenwriter Edward Parry inherited this unusual surname from his grandfather, whose place of residence was near Finland. In 1939 he was deported to Siberia, then his grandfather settled in Buryatia, in Tyumen and finally in the city of Urai, Tyumen region.
Edward Parry: biography
Eduard was born in 1973 in the small town of Myski, Kemerovo region. The mother of the future director was only sixteen years old, and his father was seventeen. Despite his youth, the parents gave their son a good upbringing and education.
To the delight of his parents, Edward Parry entered the institute in (as he himself said in an interview) an unpronounceable speci alty. Who he was supposed to become in the end is unknown, but it is known that the young man, unable to withstand internal resistance, got up and left the lecture one day and never returned to the institute.
He reassured his parents by saying that he would go to Moscow to study as a stuntman, although he had no idea where such training was conducted. Well prepared physically, in Moscow the young man enteredinstitute of physical culture and was engaged in martial arts for a long time. Making progress in this direction, Eduard Parry was sent to Austria.
Continuing training in a foreign land and despite the achievements, Eduard felt lonely. Once, having acutely felt loneliness, although Vienna was beautiful and well-groomed, he decided to give up everything and return to his homeland in order to "kiss his native land." Home Edward Parry returned with one suitcase and a desire to start a new life.
Film director career
He did not think about a career as a film director, especially since he soon got married, and his wife bore him two sons. For Edward, a new life began, where he put his family at the forefront. The main concern of the young father of the family was to provide for the family. He went into the car business, which was profitable, and everything seemed to be going well, but his inner artist haunted him. Edward Parry lived with the feeling that something was missing.
Finally, he realized what was eating him. And again the case (for the third time) turned Edward's life upside down. Arriving one day on the set, where his friend called, Parry realized that if he did not take a decisive step and did not break with a business that meant nothing to him, then the dream of making a movie would remain unrealistic.
As it turned out, cinema and theater were not alien to the film director and screenwriter. Possessing artistry, he was still engaged in folk theater in Buryatia, then they staged puppet shows, and then he got a role in the production of “Dog Sharik”.
Guys evenpaid a nominal salary, but Edward Parry participated in the folk theater not for remuneration. At that time, Indian films were brought to their town, which were impossible to get into, and the theater gave children the opportunity to freely go to see.
Emil Loteanu's student
First of all, Edward Parry, who was already over 25 years old, submitted documents to VGIK, but his documents were not even accepted there. However, the goal was in front of his eyes, and he went to the Higher Directing Courses, where he was again dumbfounded, saying that they were closing the set in two hours.
Fortunately, they let him in for an interview, and there he managed to charm the selection committee. As it turned out, the members of the commission were Emil Lotyanu, Svetlana Surikova, Vladimir Naumov, whose names were known throughout the USSR.
Surikova asked him about the children in a conversation, and Edward Parry told in vivid colors how he brings up his sons. It was very funny and accepted.
Emil Loteanu was gaining a course and became his mentor in directing. The students adored the master, Lotyanu taught Eduard to love actors: in the cinema, he said, the main thing is the actor, the way he plays the character. The task of the director is to "pull" pieces of real life out of the actor. Emil Vladimirovich said that the director's duty requires some rigidity, the ability to defend one's position so as not to betray the idea. The idea and inspiration is what keeps directing.
The master passed away early, but his beloved students still gather together and remember him on the birthday and death of Emil Loteanu. Andrey became another teacherDobrovolsky, who taught E. Parry the craft of the profession.
