The first theater award "Crystal Turandot" was established in the difficult nineties. Since then, it has been awarded annually. This is one of the most prestigious theater awards in Russia.
About the award
The first presentation of "Crystal Turandot" took place in 1991. Only metropolitan projects and artists are awarded this award.
The award is presented in seven nominations. Directors, actors, debutants, productions, stage designers recognized as the best at the end of the season receive it. There is also a special prize - "For Honor and Dignity". It is given to people who have devoted many years to serving the theatrical art.
Crystal Turandot is not just an awards ceremony, it's a celebration for everyone who receives this award.
The award is named after the main character of the performance, which is included in the repertoire of almost all Russian drama theaters. Jury members are usually artists, musicians, writers and other creative people who are not actors and directors.
History of the Award
In 1991, the first winner of the "CrystalTurandot" was Yulia Borisova, People's Artist of the USSR. Since 1992, the award ceremonies began to be held in a theatrical form. From 1995 to 2007, the award was held at the Kuskovo estate. For many years, Anatoly Pristavkin (writer), Andrey Makarevich (leader of the rock group " Time Machine"), Ekaterina Maksimova (ballerina), Pyotr Todorovsky (film director).
The authors of the first statuette-prize are T. Sazhin (glass artist) and A. Tsigal (sculptor). In 2000 "Crystal Turandot" was updated. The modern figurine was designed by N. Volikova and T. Novikova.
In 2001, the list of nominations was replenished with a new one - "For contribution to the theatrical art of Moscow". Every year the awards are presented to the laureates by different actresses in the image of Princess Turandot. This role was played by: Nonna Grishaeva, Maria Aronova, Olga Prokofieva, Liza Boyarskaya and many others.
In 2003, the awards ceremony was postponed, as the organizers of "Turandot" had financial problems.
Since 2007, award ceremonies have been held at the Tretyakov Gallery. In 2009, the award was presented at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Singing Center. Then the theatrical performance was led by Viktor Dobronravov and Maria Aronova. The ceremony was dedicated to the memory of the famous ballerina Ekaterina Maximova. In 2010, the award ceremony took place at the Novaya Opera Theatre. And again, the unique M. Aronova appeared in the role of Princess Turandot, and Mikhail Politseymako became her co-host. Maria hosted the awards for five years in a row.
The year 2011 was marked by the fact that the ceremonywas held at the Vakhtangov Theatre, and the awards were presented only in one single nomination - "Theatrical heritage". It was an anniversary ceremony. In the image of the Princess, Olga Prokofieva entered the stage, and Daniil Spivakovsky became her partner. In the same year, the tradition of holding "Crystal Balls" in honor of the laureates was introduced.
In 2013, a new nomination was established - "Best Musical". At the same time, a charitable project was created to support provincial theaters. Director Rimas Tuminas received the award for the fourth time.
Founder
Boris Petrovich Belenky is the founder of the "Crystal Turandot" award. He created his project in order to support the actors in the difficult nineties for them and out of love for art. Boris Petrovich - director, producer and screenwriter, president of the Muses of Freedom Association.
For 25 years every year B. Belenky has been a screenwriter and director of all "Turandot" award ceremonies. The award is given only to the most worthy servants of Melpomene. The winners are selected by a competent jury.
Since 2011, after the awards ceremony, the Crystal Ball has been given in honor of the laureates. This is something between a creative evening and a performance. They are held at the Vakhtangov Theatre.
Boris Petrovich is also actively involved in charity work. Thanks to him, promotions are held for stage and circus veterans.
