One of the best modern visionaries of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Mikhailovich Fedorov, did not immediately come to his calling. Generously endowed with talent, Dmitry Fedorov, whose photo is often published by domestic media, has succeeded as an artist, cameraman and, finally, as a director.
Creative career development
Dmitry Fedorov was born in Moscow in the summer of 1972 in a family of artists. His maternal grandfather was the famous painter Mikhail Shvartsman. Surrounded from early childhood by works and people of art, the boy decided to continue the family tradition preserved for generations, so after graduation he continued his education within the walls of the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute at the Faculty of Art and Graphics. He began to build his career in the field of easel painting and graphics. In 1994, following modern trends, Dmitry raised his qualification level and took up television design and computer graphics.
His career developed rapidly, soon Fedorov took the post of chief artist of the STS television company. Driven by an insatiable craving for a beautiful and creative search, in 1998 Dmitry turnsattention to the feature film production process. In 1998, he made his debut during the filming of the film "Unknown Friend" as an artist and cameraman. Not resting on his laurels, Fedorov is working on the production of the Leopold Duza film, which later received the main prize at the St. Anna Film Festival. Having tried his hand at a new professional field, Dmitry Fedorov decides to become a director and graduates from the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors. His talent in the learning process is repeatedly noted by mentors-curators P. Todorovsky and N. Ryazantseva. The novice visionary confirms his professional suitability with his thesis “Where no voice is heard.”
Since 2002, director Dmitry Fedorov has been directing television series and feature films. For beginners and debutant filmmakers, he regularly holds free workshops where he teaches students the theory of editing.
A special place in the director's track record
In 2006 already experienced director Dmitry Fedorov presented the film “KostyaNika. Time of Summer”, which is a film adaptation of Tamara Kryukova’s story under the eloquent title “Kostya + Nika”. The picture turned out to be very successful, the story of the first youthful love was filmed extremely gently, sweetly and reverently. The author of the literary source was delighted with the film interpretation of her work, domestic film critics also highly appreciated the skill of the director.
Having a successful experience of cooperation with Fedorov, in 2014 T. Kryukovawith confidence and a light heart, she entrusted the director with the film adaptation of another of her literary opuses - the story "The Witch". The talented screenwriter Yevgeny Kerov undertook to write the script. According to the author of the script and writer, Dmitry Fedorov, at the stage of discussing the project, listens to all opinions, subtly feeling the intonation of the story and turning words into images.
New masterpiece
The film with the working title "Quiet" was released in 2015 as the picture "The Witch", combining two film genres - a mystical thriller and a social drama. The director himself emphasized his increased interest in this project. He claimed that he took up the task with interest, embodying an inter-genre undertaking. In the Russian box office, the picture received an age limit of 16+, which angered the director.
According to Fedorov, he does not understand such a tough decision of censorship and a sanctimonious approach to the content of the film. The director expresses fears that such censorship may lead to results completely opposite to the declared goals of its introduction.
