The audience who watched the second and third parts of the Pirates of the Caribbean epic will forever remember such a charismatic villain as Devi Jones. A pirate who, by the will of fate, turned into a monster, is distinguished by cunning, deceit and cruelty. At the same time, he is a victim of unhappy love, which makes the image even more interesting and mysterious. What is known about the antagonist who caused a lot of evil to the main characters of the movie saga?

Devi Jones: character biography

About the life of a pirate in those days when he was a man, little is known. The character's accent hints that he was born in Scotland, but this is not explicitly stated. The robber's life was changed by a fatal meeting with the beautiful goddess Calypso, with whom he fell in love at first sight. Devi Jones also liked the patroness of sailors, so she gave him immortality. As a payment, the pirate was supposed to send the souls of people who found their death at sea to the next world.

According tounder the terms of the treaty, the former pirate could only set foot ashore once a decade. This day was the happiest for him, as he met with his beloved Calypso. But when the goddess did not come to the meeting, Devi Jones decided to betray his chosen one. With it, the pirate barons captured Calypso, placing her soul in the body of an ordinary woman.

Curse

Of course, the angry goddess could not help but take revenge on her treacherous lover. The curse turned the captain, who forever captured the ship "Flying Dutchman", as well as his entire crew into monsters. The outward appearance of the pirate became terrible. Devi Jones wears a beard that is made up of tentacles. His nose is missing, the hole located on the left cheekbone allows the ex-person to breathe.

Jones' left hand is successfully replaced by a lobster claw, on the right hand, instead of the index finger, there is a long tentacle. The crab leg (right) completes the picture. The creators claim that when developing the appearance of the hero, they were inspired by the image of Cthulhu, borrowed from Lovecraft's novels. Of course, some features of the famous captain, nicknamed Blackbeard, are also taken. Interestingly, while communicating with Calypso, the pirate looks like an ordinary middle-aged man.

Character

The monster appears to the audience as ruthless and merciless. He is cruel not only to enemies, but also to members of his own team. The captain of the Flying Dutchman hates it when people don't keep their promises to him, while he regularly goes back on his word.

However, sentimentality and love are also not alien to him. Having handed over the goddess Calypso to the pirates, he pulled his heart out of his chest to get rid of unbearable suffering. He placed it in a chest, which he then hid securely. It is the heart of Devi Jones that is his weak point. Legend has it that the man who ran him through with a sword would succeed Jones as commander of the Flying Dutchman forever.

During his free time, the monster captain likes to lock himself in his cabin, enjoying the organ music and indulging in sad memories of lost life and love.

Abilities

What talents does Pirates of the Caribbean's most charismatic villain have? Devi Jones can teleport, pass through walls. "Sea Devil" is also an excellent swordsman, his physical flaws not only do not interfere, but also help him fight people. On the human body, Jones can leave a "black mark", other members of the crew of the Flying Dutchman are also endowed with this ability. The mark helps to track the movements of the next selected victim.

It is impossible not to tell about the terrible creature that the former pirate can call from the depths of the sea. We are talking about the kraken - a legendary monster capable of destroying the most reliable ships. Among the victims of the kraken is the ship "Black Pearl", once owned by Jack Sparrow. The giant squid that crashes into ships and pulls their passengers into the sea was taken by the creators of Pirates of the Caribbean from ancient Irish legends.

Appearing in the film

"Dead Man's Chest" is the second part of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie saga, in which the audience sees Jones for the first time. In this part, Jack Sparrow learns that the legendary immortal pirate considers him his debtor and intends to demand payment of the debt. Of course, Jack tries to solve this problem by dragging Elizabeth and Will Turner into his dangerous adventures, disrupting the wedding of lovers. In the fight against Jack, the "Sea Devil" manages to sink the "Black Pearl", but people get to his hidden heart and kidnap him.

Dead Man's Chest is not the only part of the Pirates of the Caribbean epic in which viewers can admire the immortal pirate. In the third part, called "At the End of the World", he is also present. The ending proves tragic for the monster, as Jack Sparrow stabs his heart using a sword held in the hand of Will Turner, mortally wounded by Jones. Devi dies, Will succeeds him as commander of the Flying Dutchman.
