Childhood

The hero of this article was born in Minnesota.

Already during elementary school, Freddie Moore knew that someday he would become a guitarist and singer. In an interview, the artist said: "I have always been drawn to stringed instruments: ukuleles, violins and so on."

When the Beatles conquered the United States in 1964, the boy attempted to make his own guitar. A little later, he moved to California. He cut himself a Beatles-style haircut and sat in his room for days on end, learning the songs of the Liverpool Four and trying to write his own. Freddie Moore recalls this time: "I didn't have friends, but I didn't need them."

Imitating idols

So, by the mid-sixties, Freddie Moore became a dedicated fan of rock music. He diligently studied each new Beatles album. In addition to the named British team, he listened to Fab Four and The Kinks. ToBy this time, the young man had already finally and irrevocably chosen the path of life for himself. His calling was rock and roll.

First songs

The boy began to make every possible effort to fulfill his dream. He later said about his school years: "While studying the Beatles' record sleeves, I noticed that they play their own compositions. So I realized that in order to become a professional rock musician, you need to learn to write your own works."

In the summer of 1964, after the release of A hard day's night, Freddie Moore and his cousin Dan spent two weeks making copies of the Beatles' instruments. The 13-year-old boys made guitars similar to those played by George Harrison and John Lennon, Ringo drums, and Paul McCartney's bass.

"We just turned on the records and pretended to sing and play. Me and Danny wanted to play music for real, the rest of our friends were happy with just opening their mouths to the soundtrack. But in the end my brother and I "We won. Our ensemble learned the song You really got me by the Kinks and the Beatles' And I love her. At the same time, I wrote my first song Baby be mine," says Freddie Moore.

The path to professionalism

Following high school, young musician Freddie Moore entered the University of Minnesota to study composition under Dominic Argento, author of several operas and many other works for the symphony orchestra.

While studying at this institution, the young man met the organist Randy Pink, who gave him his first lessons in playing his instrument. The hero of this article recalls this in this way: “In one of the auditoriums of the university, I found an organ and played it until the evening. And suddenly someone came in. I thought that I was taking away his time for classes. But this guy said that everything all right, and showed me how to use an instrument I didn't know. In addition to organ lessons, this man gave Freddie Moore his first knowledge of jazz music. He introduced him to the work of Thelonious Monk and other famous pianists.

First professional group

All this time, Freddie Moore (see photo below) does not stop writing his own musical works. In the late sixties, he was already known outside the university walls as the author of excellent pop songs.

By the age of 19 he had written more than 90 works. Once he was approached by members of local bands, who had previously performed cover versions of Beatles and Rolling Stones hits, with a request to write some original compositions for them. Moore politely declined, but suggested that they team up and form their own band. This team was named An English Sky in honor of one of the songs of the hero of this article.

Followed by a series of temporary projects. All these bands recorded the same works by Freddie Moore. Therefore, he has a huge collection of various versions of his songs.
