Udmurtia is a region with a distinctive history, culture and traditions. To preserve the memory of the roots of creativity, the Udmurt National Theater was founded in the capital. Writers and aspiring actors found their calling in it, and the public quickly reached out to the temple of art.
History of occurrence
Back in 1923, the first drama club was founded in the center of the republic. He acted within the framework of the Red Udmurt club. After outstanding talents came there, the question arose of creating an independent theater. Promising actors wanted to perform in front of a large audience.
Therefore, on the initiative of the students of the circle and third-party theatergoers, in 1931 the Udmurt professional theater arose. The beginning was laid by the production of "The Vala River Noises", which was masterfully directed by K. A. Lozhkin. The creator of the play was a member of the "Red Udmurt" - writer I. G. Gavrilov, who continued to work for the benefit of the theater for another 40 years.
Becomingand recognition
The rapid development of the cultural life of the national theater in Izhevsk began after it was given the status of a state theater. This happened in 1935, the theater received the right to stage works of world classics, as well as to glorify their wards. For example, M. Konovalova and A. Saratov.
At the very beginning of the Great Patriotic War, a lot of workers were required, so part of the theater staff was sent to the front, as well as to rear enterprises. But the leadership realized the importance of maintaining morale, so in 1942 the speeches continued. More than 500 performances were shown during the war.
Promoting its national theater, Izhevsk embarked on the path of cultural flourishing. In the 50s, active cooperation began with the best theater universities in the USSR: Moscow, Leningrad and Ufa. Great attention was paid to the works of Russian classical playwrights, as well as national works. The productions were imbued with the Udmurt flavor, which was taken on tour to neighboring regions and republics.
The cultural center received its current name - the Udmurt National Theater of Izhevsk - in 1996. It became official and marks the theater to this day.

The legendary I. Gavrilov created the comedy "Golden Autumn", which became a national treasure and a landmark event in the history of the theater. The playwright and the acting troupe became the winners of the State Prize of the UASSR.
Udmurt theater is a favorite place for family holidays. Residents of the entire republic come here with children for cultural enlightenment. For young viewers, fairy tales and performances have been included in the regular repertoire. For example, "The Little Humpbacked Horse", "Cinderella", "The Frog Princess", "Frost".
To mark the 450th anniversary of Udmurtia joining Russia, the national theater of Izhevsk was renovated. In 2008 it was revived with V. Sadovnikov's production of The Wedding. It still functions in this form. Located at the address: Izhevsk, st. Gorky, 73.
