Billy Brown is an American actor. He is best known for his television roles, especially on the popular series Dexter and How to Get Away with Murder, which he still stars in to this day. In addition to acting in films and TV shows, he often works as a voice actor, has given voice to several cartoon characters and is the voice of commercials for the US Marine Corps.
Childhood and early career
Billy Brown was born October 30, 1970 in Inglewood, California. He began his acting career in the late nineties, the first notable project was Steven Spielberg's blockbuster Jurassic Park, where the actor played a cameo role.
In the next fifteen years, Billy Brown worked extensively as a voice actor, giving his voice to the characters in more than ten computer games. He also began acting in small roles in popular TV shows, among them the Courteney Cox project "Dirt", "Californication", a police series"Southland" and "Think Like a Criminal".
TV roles
In 2011, Billy Brown received his first major role on television. He entered the main cast of the boxing drama Put Out the Lights. The FX series was canceled after its first thirteen-episode season. In the same year, the actor received a regular role in the popular TV series Dexter, where he played detective Mike Anderson. This role brought Brown recognition and many new offers.
In 2013, he played in three episodes of the first season of the series "The Followers", at the same time he entered the main cast of the multi-episode political thriller "Hostages", which, however, was soon closed by the channel due to not too high ratings.
In recent seasons of the hit series "Sons of Anarchy," Billy Brown played a minor villain, Augustus Marks. In 2014, he appeared in several episodes of the spy series with Sean Bean in the title role "Legends".
However, it was the role in the series "How to Get Away with Murder" that became a real breakthrough for the actor. Billy Brown has been playing Detective Nate Lahey, who is the love interest of Viola Davis' lead character, for four seasons. The series is a real hit and was recently renewed for a fifth season. Brown appeared in 53 episodes of the show's sixty.
At the same time, the actor continues to work in voice acting. In recent years, he has been involved in the creationanimated series "Transformers" and "Adventure Time", and continues to work on advertising campaigns for the US Marine Corps.
Movie roles
On the big screen, the actor's career is not going as well as on the small one. Among the films with Billy Brown, one can note the reboot of the Star Trek franchise in 2009, where the actor appeared in a small role.
However, after the success of How to Get Away with Murder, Brown finally landed his first lead role in a feature film. He starred alongside Taraji P. Henson in the action film Proud Mary, which received poor reviews from critics and audiences and performed poorly at the box office.
