The ballet "Rodin" is a choreographic embodiment of the story of the unfortunate passion of the greatest Master and his student. The frozen movements of the sculptures come to life to the accompaniment of melodies. However, first things first.
The story of the creation of Boris Eifman's Ballet Theatre
The Ballet Theater dates back to 1977, when a young fan of the choreography of emotions Boris Eifman decided on a crazy idea. The choreographer's dream was to create a special union of talented people who would be able to express any mood or idea with the help of a combination of classical and avant-garde pas. Through a careful selection of like-minded dancers, the foundation of the theater was created - a ballet studio of original choreography. Brought up in the best traditions of the Russian classical ballet school, the performers at first had difficulty mastering the new plastique. But the perseverance and diligence of the team led to the transformation of a simple ballet ensemble into a majestic "Ballet Theatre".
Soon, Eifman's brainchild, thanks to unique productions and sketches, gained immense popularity not only at home, but also abroad. The avant-garde choreography made me take a fresh look at the literary classic known since childhood - “AnnaKarenin”, “Eugene Onegin”, “The Seagull”, which was preferred by director Boris Eifman.
Ballet "Rodin" - a choreographic monument to the legendary sculptor
The Ballet Theater specializes mainly in staging classical works. Thanks to unexpected plastic techniques, the emotions and feelings of the characters are painted in new, sharp tones. An exception to the plot is the ballet "Rodin" at the Bolshoi Theater. The performance is a real choreographic monument to the greatest Master of his era, or rather, the personification of his difficult connection with his follower and beloved model Camille Claudel. A devoted student accompanied the Master for 15 long years and was his constant muse. Fatal passion cost the peace of mind of a young woman who ended her days in captivity in an insane asylum. The sculptor remembered his beloved until his last breath, embodying her image in his works.
Short play libretto
This is another choreographic performance about the bright moments of Rodin's life. With the help of plastic vocabulary, the viewer is presented with the difficult relationship of the Master with his beloved Camille Claudel. The duration of the ballet "Rodin" is two acts, each of which is a separate story.
The first act includes pictures of Camille's last refuge - a hospital for the mentally ill and the aging Rodin's memories of a bright past passion. With the last passion of the Master, his legal wife Rose was hard to put up with. The madness of the rival and her imprisonment inthe yellow house brings unbearable relief to the wife. But the sculptor remains cold to the caresses and care of Rosa, more and more often remembering the inspirer and sorceress Camille.
The second act of the ballet begins with the scene of the sculpture of the legendary pantheon Rodin "The Gates of Hell". The process of creating a masterpiece is intertwined with the ambivalence of the sculptor's feelings. The immeasurable fidelity of his wife struggles with a fatal passion for a young model. The loss of reason of Mademoiselle Claudel and the eternal spiritual loneliness of a genius are the result of this merciless struggle.
The last scenes of the performance embody the way to nowhere for the patients of the hospital and the eternal triumph of the talent of the Genius.
Place and time of the premiere of the play "Rodin"
Boris Eifman's performance is unique not only in its stage design. The performance uses the music of famous composers of the 19th century - Jules Massenet, Maurice Ravel, Camille Saint-Saens. The main parts - Auguste Rodin himself, his wife Rose Boeret and Camille Claudel - are performed by the young talents of the Ballet Theater Oleg Gabyshev, Nina Zmievets and Lyubov Andreeva.
The first performance of the ballet "Rodin" took place on November 22, 2011 on the stage of the Alexandria Opera and Ballet Theater in St. Petersburg. A little later, the performance was presented to the residents of the capital on the stage of the Bolshoi Theater as part of the Cherry Forest Arts Festival (mid-May 2012).
The popularity of ballet has spread not only in the cities of Russia, but also abroad. For several years, the production has enjoyedsuccess in New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Paris, London, Berlin, Vienna, Shanghai and other cities around the world.
According to reviews, Eifman's ballet "Rodin" was a true breakthrough in non-standard choreographic thought.
