Naturally, bloody films affect the human psyche. Moreover, the impact of such film projects is both negative and positive.
Training the spectator nerves
Horror and films of other genres, using an incredible amount of sham blood, are designed to frighten the beholder, to evoke fears hidden deep in the subconscious. They effectively focus on the dark side of the human personality, war, famine, murder, violence. Every year the number of fans of such paintings is growing. This trend is explained by the fact that human culture is becoming more humane and the inhabitants are sorely lacking in adrenaline. Therefore, bloody films in our chaotic modernity are positioned by experts as training for human nerves.
Based on the results of an art project
More recently, case studies from the director's cut, an arts project, have suggested that the bloodiest films are the ones with the most on-screen murders. The experts compiled a list of 653 paintings.
The leader among them was the fantastic thriller "GuardiansGalaxies" (IMDb: 8.10). For 121 minutes of running time, 83,871 murders are shown on the screen, while the tape has only an RG-13 rating (not recommended for children under 13). Significantly behind in the number of murders (5,687), but takes the second position "Dracula" directed by Gary Shore. The TOP-10 includes: the last part of the trilogy about the Ring of Omnipotence "The Return of the King" (2,798 murders and 4th place), the third series of the film cycle "The Matrix. Revolution” (1,647 kills and 7th place), “Braveheart” by Mel Gibson with 1,297 kills in 9th position.
Surprisingly, the least bloody were: "Deadpool" with an R rating and 51 deaths, the second part of the fantastic picture "Mad Max" with the name "Road Warrior" and 50 deaths and the Japanese painting "Samurai" that has not lost its liveliness: Way of the Warrior" also with five dozen victims.
"Bloody" director
Among the endless list of features that define Quentin Tarantino's directorial style, the main one is his disposition to blood and violence. Most of his work is highly stylized action films, very gory films. In the works of the director, there is an abundance of blood and murders, but most of them still happen behind the scenes, the viewer sees only their consequences. Tarantino's violence doesn't scare the viewer too much, as it's fantasy, beautifully crafted and professionally acted. Nevertheless, it was only during the production of the aesthetic gangster action movie with martial arts “Kill Bill” that Tarantino ordered and used up to the last drop 1700 liters of fake blood. Of course, the abundance of bloody scenes in Tarantino's works may be due to the specifics and style of the genre in which the director works, but the director himself says otherwise. It's "just really funny," he says.
Splatters
Bloody horror films are mostly splatter sub-genre, where the creators deliberately emphasize the extremely naturalistic demonstration of blood.
The progenitor of this subgenre of cinema is Herschel Gordon Lewis. His "Bloody Feast" (1963) is a real scandalous legend of horror cinema. Horror film with an IMDb rating of 5.00 is officially recognized by world film critics as the first ever gore movie.
The term splatter was coined by George Romero for "Dawn of the Dead" (IMDb: 8.00), in which 80% of the screen time is filled with blood streams and severed body parts. Romero's brainchild with a well-deserved MPAA –R rating, subtle irony, not bad philosophical overtones and dark humor deserves the leading positions in the category "Best Bloody Movies".
Fun in Fake Blood Asian Style
Splatter projects are, according to eminent film critic Michael Arnzen, "low-key fun in fake blood and a contemporary art form." The splatters listed below are characterized by the physical destruction of the body, the blood in these tapes is a fundamentally woven part of the film.
"Suicide Club" (IMDb: 6.60). The author's project of Sion Sono presents an excitinga cocktail of black comedy, horror, detective and youth drama. A story about how one day 54 schoolgirls jump in front of a train at a certain moment. The tragedy almost turns into a natural trash, in which liters of blood gush in all directions.
Japanese director Yoshihiro Nishimura's film "Tokyo Blood Police" (IMDb: 6.00) can be described in one sentence - trashy, bright, evil and cruel. Action scenes with computer graphics are highly technical. Hundreds of gallons of blood, carnage, dismemberment of bodies, insane murders and surprisingly beautiful camera work.
American splatters
The bloody films produced in the USA cannot be counted, there are an incredible number of them. Therefore, it is worth limiting ourselves to the classic representatives of the genre:
Land of the Dead (IMDb: 6.20) directed by George A. Romero. The film was highly acclaimed by critics, some filmmakers positioned the project as an eschatological social parable, others - as a very daring cinematic exercise on the theme of zombies. The director's attempt to shoot a post-apocalyptic dystopia was a success, the meat splatter turned out to be amazingly creepy and believable
Hostel, a teen horror film directed by Eli Roth, made ten times its modest $4,800,000 budget at the box office. Within 94 minutes of running time, chilling, terrifying, naturalistic, and subtly violent action unfolds on screen. Despite all the specifics of the genre, the first film spawnedtwo sequels: "Hostel 2" and "Hostel 3", directed by Scott Spiegel. These two tapes in the trilogy turned out to be an order of magnitude more powerful and tougher than the first picture
Slasher epic
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre slasher epic began in 1974 with the work of Tobe Hooper. The original tape has an IMDb rating of 7.50. Some film critics call it the first slasher in the history of cinema. The film was a phenomenal success. The picture is an absolutely author's project that impresses the beholder with its suffocating, monstrous atmosphere and paradoxically cold demonstration of dismemberments in all sorts of ways.
With the diligence of the luminary of the horror genre, director Marcus Nispel in 2004, the story of the brutally cruel maniac killer - the notorious "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" - got a remake (IMDb: 6.20). The picture was shot competently and, most importantly, beautifully, if it is possible to characterize the bloody madness that is happening on the screen.
The remake was successful, so in 2006 a prequel appeared with the sub title "Inception". Director Jonathan Liebesman hasn't been able to match the success of the now-classic horror film Leatherface. In the atmosphere of Liebesman's work, of course, fear hovers, but it is mixed with disgust, which causes a bloody mess played on the screen.
And John Lewisenhop's newfangled project Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D (IMDb: 4.80) was called by film critics a non-terrible slasher about the continuity of family traditions. Despite the fact that the film garnered disappointing reviews from experts, and itsThe 3D effects were considered the worst in history, and it paid for itself in a single screening weekend.
Don't judge a movie by its title
The film "Bloodsport" (IMDb: 6.80) directed by Newt Arnold, despite its name, can hardly be called a bloody film project - it is a sports action movie. The plot of the tape is quite simple and is based on individual facts from the biography of Frank Dukes. The dramaturgy of the tape looks perfect in its own way, although the main part of the story is crammed full of fights. The trowels applied shooting in rapid speed, the right angles, the lively editing, including the “cross” one, are also impressive. Yes, and the lead actor Jean-Claude Van Damme, demonstrating signature techniques, pleasantly surprises with acting, proving that he is the owner of the charisma of a true star.
A story of terrible deeds
The 16+ film "Bloody Lady Bathory" begins with a beautiful scene in which a bloody trail trails behind a girl climbing the steps of an ancient castle. After what he sees, the beholder involuntarily tunes in to an adult, tough and bloody spectacle. However, the story of the terrible atrocities of the Hungarian Countess Elisabeth Bathory in the future is more similar to a terrible children's tale. Director Andrea Konsta and screenwriter Matthew Jacobs tried their best to convey the terrifying and bloody story of the murderous countess, but the gloomy atmosphere in their film is maintained only thanks to the incessant ominous music. Thus, the tape, positioned as a thriller about the Bloody Countess, no matter howparadoxically, it turned out almost without blood and tense atmosphere.
Popular name
Movies with the name "Blood Moon" in the history of the global film industry have been released a lot. This includes a 1989 horror thriller film directed by Enzo Milioni, an Australian thriller directed by Alec Mills in 1990, an American thriller film directed by Tony Leung Siu Hung in 1997, and Jeremy Wooding's 2014 British horror western film. But the most sinister of these is the film "Blood Moon" produced by Germany, which was created by Jesús Franco in 1981. The director of the picture became famous for his original art-house works with erotic overtones. He has several successful works in the horror genre: Dracula, Zombie Oasis, Mansion of the Living Dead and White Cannibal Goddess. His "Blood Moon" is an excellent colorful slasher. Very spectacular murders and an atmosphere of unaccountable horror raised the project to a fairly high level among other bloody films.
