The idea of creating a work came to A. P. Chekhov, when a familiar artist told him the case of a dog that got into the circus. The story, originally titled "In the Learned Society", is published in 1887. Five years later, in 1892, Chekhov's work "Kashtanka" was published with a different name. A brief summary of the story will be considered in this article.
Bad behavior
A young fox-like dog walks down the street with his master. For joy that they took her with them, she jumps, rushes barking at the cars, chasing dogs. Luka Alexandrovich is dissatisfied. Loud music suddenly sounds, and Kashtanka rushes to run. When she came to her senses, the owner had already disappeared from sight. A. P. Chekhov describes the experiences of a dog very deeply. Kashtanka, whose internal monologue can be read in the story, is very upset.
Mysterious stranger
Dog from fatigue dozed off near some entrance. Suddenly a stranger came out. He took pity on the dog andtook her with him. Soon Kashtanka was already sitting in the warm room, picking up the pieces of food that the Stranger threw at her. In reflections, where is it better, with a new or with a former owner, the dog falls asleep. She dreams of the old house and the son of Luka Aleksandrovich Fedyushka. Very ambiguously shows the summary ("Kashtanka") Chekhov has this strange dream. Longing for the past intertwines with reality.
New, very pleasant acquaintance
Waking up, Kashtanka goes to explore the new house. Here she meets an old goose and a white cat. The first hisses, the second arches its back, seeing a new inhabitant. The chestnut is filled with loud barking. The Stranger appears and leads everyone to their places. The dog is given a new name - Aunt.
Miracles in a sieve
The stranger brings a strange little thing and begins to do incomprehensible tricks with the goose. The aunt is delighted and barks loudly. A pig appears and begins to perform "acrobatic" exercises together with a cat and a goose. The goose rides either a pig or a cat. The day passes unnoticed by Auntie, and in the evening she falls asleep in a room with other animals.
Talent! Talent
So a whole month goes by. The new owner decides to teach tricks to Auntie as well. She is taught to walk on her hind legs, howl to music, and ride a pig. All the tricks that the dog has learned, and do not include in the summary. Kashtanka Chekhova is preparing to become an artist.
Restless night
Aunt has disturbing dreams. Suddenly she hears a loud cry of a goose and feels fear. The owner comes. Healarmed by the state of the goose. Suddenly he remembers that a horse stepped on Ivan Ivanovich. The goose is dying. An incomprehensible melancholy attacks Auntie. The experiences of a small creature cannot fit in a summary. Chekhov's chestnut is frightened by the sudden death of Ivan Ivanovich.
Unsuccessful debut
The owner decides to take Auntie with him to the circus. The owner puts on a wig and a strange hoodie. The dog is frightened by such a reincarnation of the Stranger. An aunt in a suitcase is carried out onto the stage. She begins to perform familiar tricks. But suddenly she hears the familiar voice of Fedyushka, the son of her former master. She rushes through the partition to Luka Alexandrovich, and he takes her with him. This is the summary ("Kashtanka", Chekhov A. P.) of the famous story.
