The realization that everything in this world is interconnected has always excited the minds of mankind. The feeling of this subtle connection between all living things (and inanimate too) is reflected in many religions, beliefs, and even in some scientific theories, for example, about Vernadsky's noosphere. In James Cameron's film "Avatar", Ava - the spirit that pervades all life on the planet - is the personification of this idea.
Pandora's World
Before we mention Ava's concept, let's first remember what Pandora is. In the film, this is a planet on the edge of the Universe, which "conquistadors" from the Earth from the near future came to conquer for exploitative purposes. The world of Pandora is in harmony - its inhabitants do not fight with nature for benefits, but use them wisely and skillfully. Their civilization is quite primitive and corresponds to the primitive order, which is found here and there in the Indian tribes, lost deep in the jungle. But the Navi, the people of Pandora, are satisfied with what they have: they do not want to enter into conflict.with mother nature.
In Avatar, Ava is the all-encompassing mother nature. Her spirit permeates everything on the planet Pandora, and every inhabitant of this world feels its connection with the rest. Based on the existence of this spirit (Eywa's essence), "Avatar" reveals to us the culture and beliefs of the Navi people.
The importance of Ava in "Avatar" for Navi
The people of Navi are similar to people, but much more dexterous and strong. They are taller than humans, their skin is blue, and they also have a tail, with which they are able to create a connection with all life on Pandora. It was as if Ava had provided for all her children to be able to get in touch with each other. Navi believe that all life in their world is permeated by one energy. They can take energy from other creatures, for example, while hunting, but be sure to ask for forgiveness for the life they have taken. They can also share their energy with another being (to promote recovery) or rally forces for a common cause. The Navi also understand that one day they will have to give back all the energy they once borrowed. That is when death will come. They perceive her as something very natural, part of a continuous cycle of events and a return to Ava to connect with her forever or incarnate in a newborn living being.
Ritual with the Tree of Souls
One of the most memorable scenes in the film is the navi's meditation around the Tree of Souls, the personification of Ava. Connecting with their tails to the branches of the Tree of Souls, the Navi seem to become a single collectivemind, the will of which is subordinated to one goal.
In their general trance, the meditating Navi try to ask Ava for advice on what their deity and their common Mother would deign to do to protect the planet from human invaders. And Ava sends her children a sign in the form of the main character descending from heaven on a huge saddled pterodactyl. Eywa decides that she needs to fight for her freedom and all nature is activated: the Navi army, together with all living beings, repulse the attack of the human troops. With the help of Ava, the main character remains to live in the body of the Navi instead of the former helpless human body.

Shots of the exotic nature of tropical rainforests make it clear what inspired the creators of the great graphics for the film. Pandora's World is constructed on the basis of real-life tropical landscapes, still lost from the eyes of the world in the wilds of South America or Central Africa. Even the Avatar tree (in "Avatar") is nothing more than a rare banyan tree in India.
The crown of the banyan, stretching far from the trunk entangled in vines, is very reminiscent of the image of the Tree of Souls. It is also believed that it was sitting under a banyan tree that Buddha gained enlightenment.
