What would you do if you had access to any point in space and time? What would you do if you could visit medieval England, the Earth before the beginning of our era, or even be on another planet and still be home in time for evening tea? Reflecting on this, the BBC launched the most successful and longest-running film project, according to the Guinness book, "Doctor Who", the list of which has already exceeded 800 episodes. Subtle British humor, intricate plots, interweaving of fiction with scientific facts have made the series popular for many years viewers around the world.

History of 50 years

For more than 50 years, the Doctor Who series has been on the air, the list of episodes of which is replenished to this day. The first episode aired in 1963 on the British television channel BBC. It was the time of the first space flights, black and white films, the debut of the Beatles and the Rowling Stones. The day before the release of the first episode"Doctors" the whole world was shocked by the assassination of President Kennedy, and a year earlier by the death of the dazzling Marilyn Monroe.

Initially, "Doctor Who" was designed for teenagers and pursued educational goals. But over time, he gained success with a wide audience of viewers of different ages and fields of activity. According to the plot, the Doctor periodically changes his appearance. Being a Time Lord, he is able to regenerate in case of danger, receiving a new body. The writers used this ruse to allow frequent cast changes for the Doctor Who film project, which has grown significantly in its episode list. Thus, in 50 years, the role of the Lord of Time was played by 35 different people. However, the story was worked on by several generations of screenwriters and writers, including Douglas Adams (author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) and Neil Gaiman (Coraline, American Gods, Stardust).

So who is the Doctor?

Doctor Who calls himself the last Time Lord. He travels in his space-time spaceship, the Tardis, which has been transformed into a blue police box by a cloaking system failure.

Having access to any point in the universe in the present, past and future, he experiences incredible adventures, saves the world, and sometimes re-creates history. The doctor has no name. The reason for this remains a mystery throughout the series. The fate of this character is based on a personal and universal tragedy. Sometime in the past, he destroyed the home planet of Gallifrey with its entire population. This difficult decision put an end to the all-destroying Time War. Since then, the Doctor has been the last of his kind.

In order not to feel alone, traveling through the universe, the Lord of Time takes with him companions, for whom he develops warm friendly feelings. Basically, these are representatives of the earthly human race. It is the satellites that play a key role in the Doctor's misadventures, helping him avoid mistakes and prevent disasters.

Season 1 - Bad Wolf

Season 1 refers to episodes that have aired since 2005. It is with them that acquaintance with the series "Doctor Who" begins.

Season 2 - Torchwood
