All people come from childhood

A boy was born on April 19, 1900. His homeland was Weybridge, Surrey. Sister, brother and father die very early. Many sources say about the childhood of the British writer that he was educated at Charterhouse. This is a very respected and privileged school, which tried to instill in its students not only knowledge, but also life goals, spiritual values, honor. She did it very well, based on what the children who studied there became. Hughes had a penchant for writing poetry and already at school he tried his hand at poetry. The first attempts were not considered brilliant among peers, but persecutionno one suited the boy - he wants to, let him write.

Growing up, the young man did not give up poetry, but the preparation of the whole world for the First World War had an impact on him. Following the draft speeches about joining the army, Hughes volunteered. During the time that the bloody war lasted, the soldier managed to visit almost all European countries and even traveled to the Middle East, Central and North America. So, the war helped the young man see the world, which then affected his work.

The founder of radio shows

After years of fighting, Hughes Richard entered Oxford University, where famous personalities of the time studied: Robert Graves, T. E. Lawrence and others. Higher education brought up in a young man the ability to get out of difficult situations, and as a student he learned how to earn money without having a complete education. After university, Hughes got a job at the radio, where he published his poems. However, not only poetry carried him away: having seen many cultures and nationalities, he had something to say to the world in prose.

There was another major that the British writer tried: journalism. He writes post-war notes that were in such high demand at the time. In 1923, the opportunity to make a performance turned up, and already in 1924 it was heard on the BBC radio station. It was the first radio show in Europe!

Deserved awards for work

Thanks to the unusual style of writing, great capacity for work, abilityto achieve his goal, many connoisseurs of literature notice him, and in 1936 Hughes Richard at the Welsh National Theater becomes vice-president. 10 years later, in 1946, already in adulthood, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire. These titles, if they serve as a temptation to relax, having stopped at what has been achieved, then Hughes does not give in to him.

In addition, Hughes Richard's biography is replete with other awards: the mere fact that he was considered an honorary member of the US National Institute, as well as the American Academy, already indicated that in circles of literature critics of the first half of the 20th century he was recognized as an author. Both the academy and the institute specialized in art, and each institution separately placed its own emphasis on literature. Later, Hughes was admitted to an even more respected estate - the Royal Society of Literature.

World of books

How did things go in terms of literature? Between the First and Second World Wars, the writer published four collections: two with poems, and two with short stories. They were dominated by drama, philosophical overtones and the influence of the amazing writer Bernard Shaw. Later, the angularity is smoothed out, and in 1929 the world sees a book about adventures, Hurricane over Jamaica. The success was so great that after it the author becomes quite famous. The next success came with the publication of In Peril in 1938. It talked about the life of sailors: their dreams, goals, difficult everyday life and a few joys.

Then comes a 20-year "pause". During this time, Hughes did nothingwrites, but after it the author feels the strength to describe the historical events before the war, the First, Second World War itself, the gap between them in a tetralogy. By chance, only two books were included in The Human Destiny: The Fox in the Attic (1961) and The Wooden Shepherdess (1973). The writer dies halfway through his tetralogy.

Hughes Richard - "Hurricane Over Jamaica"

At the very beginning, a hurricane really sweeps over Jamaica, which separates two families: parents send seven children on a ship. Pirates take over very quickly. However, the bandits can hardly be called such - there are no weapons, they trade only with petty robbery, they never stained their hands with blood. And then one of the girls kills the captain of the Norwegian ship. The pirates are horrified by the act of the child.

Philosophy pervades every line, every new thought in the plot. Adults can understand it, but this book about adventures is recognized as youth literature. The plot is captivating, but the original cannot be compared to the translations.

Recognition

Although the performance "The Tragedy of the Sisters" is not so famous, but it was he who won the praise of Bernard Shaw. In addition, in 1965, the film "Hurricane over Jamaica" was released, where the author's idea is well displayed. The novel itself is recognized as one of the best adventure works written in the 20th century.

Thus, Hughes Richard's life is not full of colorful events, but creativity is outstanding. The fact that only four novels that came out ofthe hands of the writer, conquered the world, says that quantity does not replace quality.
