Unfortunately, the products of Irish cinema and television are unfamiliar to the domestic audience, among which there are a lot of noteworthy masterpieces. The most successful series include the crime TV show on the RTE channel "Tolerable Risk". This six-episode mini-series tells the story of Sarah Manning, whose wife is killed while on a business trip to Montreal. The TV movie began airing at the end of September 2017 in Ireland, after which it was broadcast in the USA and Canada. The international screening was handled by DCD Rights and Acorn Media Enterprises. After the successful premiere of the first season, Facet4 Media representatives announced the development of the second, so the series "Tolerable Risk" will soon get a sequel, the authors deliberately left its finale open.

Brief description of the plot by episodes. Episode 1.1

The protagonists of Tolerable Risk are the Manning couple, who live happily in Dublin. Sarah escorts her husband Lee on a business trip, notsuspecting that she would see him for the last time. Soon she is informed that her husband was killed in Montreal. She accepts condolences from family, colleagues, and management of the company where Li worked as a sales representative. The Irish police are working to solve the crime in cooperation with the peace officer of Canada. The devastated woman comes to the realization that she knew practically nothing about the past of the deceased, except that he was a native of Chicago. In connection with the investigation, the police are interested in the identity of the first husband of Sarah, who died in an accident.

Episode 1.2

The police continue to investigate the circumstances of the death of Lee Manning and find out that he and his family were followed by American intelligence services for a long time. Sarah tries to conduct her own investigation, with the help of Nuala Mulvaney's sister. At this moment, a mysterious stranger appears in her life, who confirms her suspicions that the pharmaceutical company where her husband worked is involved in what happened. The series "Tolerable Risk" in Russian does not convey all the features of the intonations of the characters, but successfully preserves the general atmosphere.

Episode 1.3

The Li case is under the jurisdiction of Detective Emer Byrne. But as soon as she delves into the investigation, the authorities immediately remove her and send her to advanced training courses in London. Sarah's sister calls the woman to a frank conversation, during which she puts forward the version that Lee knew about her first husband. And their meeting and fleeting romance wereplanned with ulterior motives.

Episode 1.4

In the fourth episode of Tolerable Risk, Detective Emer Byrne decides to stay put, risk his career, and continue the investigation against orders from his superiors. She teams up with Sarah, who has evidence of corrupt ties between the pharmaceutical company's administration and politicians and senior police officials. Women intend to resist high-ranking corrupt officials engaged in criminal activities. Their rash decision leads to a new tragedy.

Episode 1.5

After the resignation of the chief, Emer Byrne, the investigation resumes. Sarah tries to expose Hans Werner Hoffmann, but fails. A man reports to the social service that she has lost her mind and is unable to fulfill her mother's responsibilities. On the other hand, a woman finds out about a real estate scam involving her son-in-law and sister.

Episode 1.6

An FBI agent from the US Embassy finally intervenes in the investigation. Meanwhile, Sarah forces her sister to confess to the causes and consequences of a real estate scam. It turns out that Hoffman and the company's management were to blame for everything, ready to do anything to keep the 25-year-old secret. The police head to the criminals' office, but Hoffman manages to escape in his private jet.

Interesting facts

Elaine Cassidy, who plays SarahManning, agreed to participate in the project, as she was immediately provided with the contents of all six episodes for review.

Angelina Ball, who shone in the image of Detective Sergeant Emer Byrne, joined the acting group of the project despite the opinion of her agent, who considered the image of the heroine too masculine, devoid of feminine charm. The actress did her best to make the heroine softer, in whose life there is nothing but work and the search for the truth.

Screenwriter Ron Hutchinson said in an interview with the media that during his work he was conducting research on the impact of globalization on the work of international corporations in Dublin.

Criticism

"Acceptable Risk" attracts Kenneth Glenaan's directorial work and acting professionalism from the first series, but by the sixth the narrative loses its momentum, losing the intensity of the atmosphere. The structure of the narrative is different from the detective in the usual sense. The main characters, of course, follow the trail of the murder, in strictly sequential order they are given fragmentary information and circumstantial evidence, they think a lot, argue, but their investigation cannot be compared with the classics of Conan Doyle or Agatha Christie. Reviewers in reviews of the TV series "Tolerable Risk" express regret that at some point the authors stick out political and corruption squabbles, pushing the detective component. At the same time, the audience is delighted with the key characters, who are at the same time bright individuals, with habits, character traits that stand out from the crowd, andtypical heroes of our time. It is recommended to watch the series "Tolerable Risk" in Russian, as reading sub titles often distracts from what is happening on the screen.

Despite the fact that many issues in the series remained unresolved, the advance given after the first series was not fully worked out by the finale, the creators should be thanked for the next increase in interest in European series. The television industry is currently experiencing a visible boom, and such sporadic bursts confirm that the highest level has not yet been reached. So, we should expect new surprises.
