Now the French-Canadian director Denis Villeneuve is known to almost all cinema fans. On his account there are many worthy paintings, which brought him well-deserved fame. To a modern viewer, he is probably familiar from such films as "Arrival", "Prisoners" and "Blade Runner".
Childhood and early years
Denis Villeneuve was born in the Canadian city of Quebec. He was born on the third of October, in 1967. From early childhood, at the initiative of his parents, he studied at the Seminary of St. Joseph. After completing his studies, Denis decided to enter the University of Quebec at the cinema department, which was located in the city of Montreal.
This speci alty gave the future director a push in the right direction, and soon he began to take an active interest in cinema. 1991 gave Denis Villeneuve his first ever award in the Radio Canada competition. A few years later, he released the first documentary short REW FFWd, taking on the roles of director and screenwriter at the same time.
Career andfilmography
Denis Villeneuve continued to produce short films. In 2001, he made his own feature film called Whirlpool, for which he received Canada's top national Gini Award.
From 2009 to 2016, there are only positive moments in the director's career. From under his wing comes six works that have been able to win universal recognition and have been noted at major world ceremonies. Fires won eight Genie Awards, won Best Canadian Film at the Toronto Film Festival, and earned several Best Foreign Film nominations at the Bafta and Oscars.
A similar success awaited the picture "Enemy" and "Prisoners". The last work was especially liked by film critics for its cast and took an honorary line in the list of "10 best films of the outgoing year".
The Killers screened at the Cannes Film Festival and 2016's Arrival received eight Oscar nominations, including Best Director.
Currently
Having secured only a positive reputation, Denis Villeneuve received an offer to create a sequel to Blade Runner. Not so long ago, the director announced his desire to work on his own film adaptation of F. Herbert's science fiction novel Dune.
Deni was featured on Variety's list along withother promising directors. His work is warmly received by film critics and audiences alike.
