History

The Kaliningrad Philharmonic was established in one of the oldest buildings in the city, which was formerly the German Königsberg. The Catholic Church was built in Germany in 1907, in the Neo-Gothic style. The building is made of red brick, symmetrical in composition, has a high tower with pediments. An organ was located in the church, and in the prewar period it was planned to train young organists. After the war, the building was not used for many years, it began to collapse. Recovery took place only in the late 70s. In 1980, a new philharmonic was opened. Since the acoustics of the hall was originally intended for the performance of organ music, a couple of years later the building wasorgan installed. The instrument was brought from the Czech Republic, its distinctive features are 3600 pipes, 44 registers.

With the support of the Ministry of Culture of the region, the Philharmonic holds the music festival "Amber Necklace", which invites various groups from Germany, Poland, Lithuania and other countries. More than once, the concert hall has become a venue for an organ competition.
