On the NTV channel you can see a lot of news - both accusatory and criminal, and simply scandalous. This TV channel has long won the fame of a scandalous and criminal TV channel. But few people know how "NTV" stands for, and what these letters mean in general.
Common misconception
1993 is considered to be the year of foundation of the TV company. The creators of NTV were Igor Malashenko, Yevgeny Kiselyov and Oleg Dobrodeev (colleagues jokingly called this group of people "gone by three letters"). Many are mistaken that they know the answer to the question: "How does NTV stand for?" The popular belief that these letters stand for "independent television" is erroneous. Igor Malashenko, the president of the television company himself, reports that he has already spoken "fifty times" about the misunderstanding of the abbreviation "NTV", the decoding of which has never been translated as "independent television". And in general, not everything is so simple with these three letters.
"NTV": deciphering the abbreviation
But how is it really? Howstands for "NTV" in this case? And the answer is very simple: not at all. As Malashenko himself says, he once came up with this abbreviation for the new television, but his then partners did not like it. They offered both "independent" and "non-state". But in the end, in 1993, after assigning an abbreviation to the new TV channel, everyone unanimously agreed that NTV would not be deciphered in any way.
Development
At first, there were guesses about how "NTV" stands for "independence", but over time, all assumptions dissipated.
NTV started broadcasting on Channel 5, and only Yevgeny Kiselyov's single program, Itogi, could be seen. But already next year, entvshniks were broadcasting 58 hours a week, only on the fourth channel. After some time, the fourth channel was completely absorbed by the "three letters", and, as former media curator Mikhail Poltoranin said, the matter could not have done without help "from above" and bribes.
By the way, the fourth channel was essentially cultural and educational and was called "Russian Universities". And the useful river of knowledge was blocked by a mountain of intrigues and scandals. However, perhaps not everything is so tragic - after all, after the collapse of the USSR, the leaders of the fourth TV channel did not particularly strive to fulfill their educational role, but only created the appearance, hiding behind a noble name and releasingvery different from earlier transmissions.
As for the NTV television company, its management has left a piece of the former educational channel on its own "territory". It was an hour-long program for people who study foreign languages. However, this program did not last long on the channel - in 1997 it was closed, and after that there was not a single program left on Russian television that would be designed to educate young people.
Now "NTV" is a round-the-clock all-Russian channel where you can find various news and analytical programs, journalistic investigations take up a lot of space, and in addition to this, socio-political talk shows. You can often see documentaries, as well as a lot of series (mostly of a criminal nature).
