Khokhryakov Viktor Ivanovich - famous People's Artist of the USSR, twice winner of the Stalin Prize. He became famous thanks to filming in "Great Power" and "Young Guard". In addition to theatrical, acting and directing work, he took part in the dubbing of cartoons with pleasure, participated in radio programs.

Childhood

Khokhryakov Viktor Ivanovich was born in 1913, according to various sources, on July 13 or 26, in the city of Ufa. From childhood, the boy did not have a special attraction to acting. Moreover, when at the age of nine his father enrolled him in a circle of dramatic creativity, which functioned at the children's hospital, where he himself was listed as an accountant, at first the boy was reluctant to go. In general, his father did not predict a career as an artist for him, but only wanted to introduce his son to amateur performances, which he himself enjoyed doing in his youth.

However, soon Victor was so carried away by the theater that he began to participate in school productions and even led the circle himself at the age of 15. ATIn his free time, he worked as an apprentice at the Bashkir Drama Theater. Started as a prop assistant, then became a stagehand and sometimes appeared in extras.

The beginning of a career on the stage

At the age of 16, Viktor Khokhryakov becomes a student of the Leningrad College of Performing Arts, which later became an institute, enrolling in the course of N. V. Petrov. Along with his studies, he actively takes part in performances in episodic, small roles.

After graduating from college in 1933, the young man gets a job at the theater. A. S. Pushkin, but he did not have a chance to work there for any long time. In the same year, his teacher N. V. Petrov was invited to head the Russian Theater founded in Kharkov, and he and several fellow students followed along with the teacher.

V. I. Khokhryakov served in this theater for seven years and played many interesting and diverse roles. It was Mitrofan ("Undergrowth"), Prozorov ("Three Sisters") and many others. Here he tries himself as a reader of works of art on stage, which he undoubtedly succeeds in.

War years

In 1933, N. V. Petrov headed the theater of transport in Moscow, where, at his invitation, Viktor Khokhryakov entered the service. The news of the beginning of the war in 1941 finds him and the entire theater troupe in the city of Tyumen, where at that time a two-month tour took place. By decision of the authorities, the team moves to the military district in the Far East for the duration of the war, later to the Urals, and then to Siberia.

Actors sometimes gave two or three performances a day, and at night they moved to a neighboring village. Moreover, rehearsals of old and new productions often took place on the way. The team felt great fatigue, but no groans and complaints were heard from anyone. On the contrary, people felt the need to help others in such a difficult time.

Due to the lack of additional cast, the duties of the actors included making their own costumes, makeup, and so on. Khokhryakov himself was in charge of the prop shop, where his carpentry skills came in handy.

First film roles

As an actor, Viktor Khokhryakov began his film career in the first years after the war. One of his debut film works was roles on the work topics that were relevant at that time. Among them images:

• surgeon Petrov in the film epic "In the Name of Life" (directed by Alexander Zarkhi and Iosif Kheifits);
• engineer Valeryan Khomutov in the film "Pages of Life" (Boris Barnet and A. Macheret);
• the chairman of the village Kuzma Veshnyak in the comedy film "The New House" (Vladimir Korsh-Sablin).

Made the actor popular and recognizable by the picture "Young Guard", filmed in 1948. It tells about the Komsomol feat of young guys during the war, who at the cost of their lives fought against the German invaders. In the film, V. Khokhryakov played the role of Protsenko, the regional committee secretary, who led the work of an underground cell, which included former schoolchildren and older activists who remained in the occupied territory. For this work he was awardedStalin Prize.

He received this award again in 1951 for his portrayal of Milyagin in The Great Power, a film by Friedrich Ermler. However, despite the award, critics consider this work the weakest in Khokhryakov's career. In the children's film "The Extraordinary Journey of Mishka Strekachev" (1959), the actor's performance was recognized as good. A fun adventure film about a little boy's journey across the country really liked the audience.

Service in the small theater

By the time he moved to the Maly Theater in 1953, V. I. Khokhryakov had the title of Honored Artist and was awarded two Stalin Prizes. His debut role in the new place was the work in the production of "Moscow Character", where he played director Potapov. Other interesting roles followed:

• gatekeeper in Shakespeare's Macbeth;
• Vorotynsky in the play "Ivan the Terrible";
• Ovcharenko in the play "Wings";
• Ivan Rybakov in the production of the same name.

Viktor Khokhryakov served at the Maly Theater until the end of his days. Despite the fact that he was one of the key actors and a professional in the genre of comedy and drama, playing classical and modern repertoire, he continued to expand the boundaries of his creative range, not being afraid to experiment. The acting career of V. I. Khokhryakov was not always smooth and cloudless, periods when everything worked out were replaced by dark streaks. However, he was able to achieve real professionalism and skill, which he willingly shared with those who needed help. In this perspective, critics have repeatedly mentioned the film "The Extraordinary Journey of Mishka Strekachev" (1959). The actor's performance is characterized as authentic, simple and heartfelt. He tried to emphasize the positive features of his characters, softening and leveling the negative ones. Because of this, they became brighter and more believable.

Other activities

Even in his youth, Khokhryakov staged performances, being the head of the theater circle. While serving in the Transport Theater, Viktor Ivanovich begins directing his first professional performance "Random Encounters".

At the Maly Theater, the performances created by him “Not all the carnival for a cat”, “The Stone Nest” by Vuolijoki (joint work with M. N. Gladkov) were very popular, the production of “Guilty Without Guilt” by Ostrovsky (the last work) was also in demand Khokhryakov as a director together with A. Burdonsky).

In addition, Viktor Ivanovich voiced numerous movie characters in foreign films, among them: "The Count of Monte Cristo", "Spartacus", "Crusaders", "Hands over the City", "Policemen and Thieves", as well as other popular films. With great pleasure dubbed the actor and several cartoon characters.
