The Baroque style is one of the most interesting trends in the art of Europe of the 16th-18th centuries, as well as Latin America.

The Baroque era is interesting for its contrast, dynamics, drama and at the same time - new ideas about harmony, unity and diversity of the world around.

This word is Portuguese for "ugly pearl". Translated from Italian, "baroque" means "bizarre, strange".

Besides, the term "Baroque" is one of the types of scholastic reasoning. Therefore, this style was considered absurd and ugly, and everything he depicted was exaggerated and unnatural. Italy is considered its ancestor.

All types of art, such as architecture, music, poetry and baroque painting, were distinguished by pomp, flashiness, grandeur and solemnity of creations, showiness and deep sensuality of the depicted images, their idealization, a combination of reality and fantasy. Baroque painting glorified the power of power and the church, the we alth and beauty of the nobility. The pinnacle of this style is the propaganda of absolute monarchy.

The most common themes in baroque (painting) were religious themes: Madonna with soaring angels against the background of curlyclouds, the faces of saints taken from religious scenes and depicted in unusual poses.

New art, including painting (Baroque), has replaced the Italian Renaissance. After all, the emergence of any currents in art is associated with certain historical events, and the new always arises as a result of the struggle with the old.

The goal of baroque style painting is to move away from everything sinful, earthly and get closer to the unearthly, idealistic, sinless. It was believed that art and nature are true in different ways, each in its own way. The purpose of art is to surprise and amaze. And for this, it is worth embellishing the created images in order to evoke sublime feelings in people: amazement, surprise, delight and even euphoria.

Reason and asceticism are replaced by sensuality, up to ecstasy, and luxury. It was during the development of the Baroque style that the opportunity arose to combine different types of arts - spatial and temporal. For example, the synthesis of music with poetry led to the emergence of opera. There have been attempts to combine sculpture with painting.

Prominent representatives of this trend in painting are: L. Bernini (Italy), P. Rubens (Flanders), Rembrandt (Holland), Charles Labrun, Jacent Rigaud (France), Velazquez, El Greco, Jusepe Riber (Spain).

In the 17th and 18th centuries, the Baroque style spread rapidly in Latin America (this is the lush and shocking "ultra-baroque"), and then in Eastern Europe.

Later - at the beginning of the 18th century - it will be replaced by stylerococo (France), and then classicism, which subjected baroque painting to severe criticism, calling the creations of this style pretentious and tasteless, up to ugliness, and the baroque period - a time of decline, the disappearance of good taste and a sense of beauty.

For our time - uncertain, vague and hyperdynamic, in search of order and stability - Baroque painting is very close in spirit.
