Valery Lvovich Zheleznyakov, also known as Partizan, is one of the best professional card game players in Russia. There are legends about his style of play, he is known not only in our country, but also far beyond its borders. Valery Zheleznyakov - Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and Professor at MIPT University. He devoted his entire life to studying game theory and probability theory.
General Biography
Partizan (Zheleznyakov) was born on August 23, 1941 in the city of Gorky. There is no reliable data on the family in which the future card pro was born, and from this we can draw a simple conclusion: the man, like his entire family, never shone anywhere, that is, he was an ordinary average child in childhood and just as ordinary in student years as a boy. But where then did this man come to worldwide fame? How did he break into the celebrity arena so easily, and, most importantly, did he want to? It can only be judged by the few facts that have been found. And here is one of them:Zheleznyakov received such an unusual nickname thanks to a song called “Partisan Sailor Zheleznyak”. As you can see, the name of Valery Lvovich and the one in the song are similar. From here the player took a pseudonym.
Early years
Like any other person, Valery Zheleznyakov (Partizan) studied at the university. And not in any institution, but in Moscow State University, already respected at that time. Possessing extraordinary abilities in the field of arithmetic, mathematics and mathematical analysis, the guy entered the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. There, he almost studied more diligently than anyone else and was the soul of a student company, which often liked to play cards and talk about the difficult student lot. But, surprisingly, in those years, Zheleznyakov did not play cards yet: his first passion was chess, which, quite possibly, helped him create a person who thinks a few points ahead, with a sharp mind and able to analyze any situation well. So he would have been the champion in a chess tournament from his university, but only fate, as always, decreed otherwise …
Tipping point
The story seems so clear, so simple at first glance, that it is simply unbelievable: one decree managed to change the life of not only one person, but perhaps hundreds of other people.
While in the first year of his university, Valery Zheleznyakov found the most extensive inspection of student dormitories in the past few years. On the eve of that day, a large jar of cherry jam was sent to him from home, and it was on that day that the eternally hungry student was impatient to open it …It just shouldn't have been left open right under the bed, although in any other place a society of hungry, like wolves, students would not have left a trace of jam.
When the commission entered his room, Zheleznyakov only had time to habitually put the jar under the bed, but who expected that they would try to extract it with a mop - and in the most brazen way. The head of the commission, associate professor Sinkov, of course, fell into the zone of defeat: his new shiny shoes were completely smeared with cherry, sickly sweet syrup. The assistant professor ordered the guy to be evicted from the hostel, and from that moment his adventures in the world of numbers, card shirts and disruption of large sums of money begin …
First steps in the world of excitement
No, you should not think that eviction from the hostel means the complete exclusion of Zheleznyakov as a student from the university - he was simply transferred to another building, to another building. And here the future player saw a completely different world - the world of entertainment. The students of this corps were real lovers of playing cards, so it was absolutely not a burden for them to teach the game to the newcomer Valera, so that his participation would make the game even more interesting.
Two weeks later, Zheleznyakov was already the champion in card games among the students of his own university, after some time, literally a year later, he became famous for his game throughout Moscow.
The virtues of the card "guru"
Few people who know this person personally know why it is Partizan who receives the laurels of the winner and rave reviews. ZheleznyakovValery Lvovich was a very intelligent person, and in the broadest sense of the word. He not only had deep knowledge in almost all branches of mathematics (especially in the theory of probability and everything connected with it), he was an amazing practitioner who, with skillful sharpness, applied in life, it would seem, calculations that only he alone could understand.
And what other secrets could Partizan hide? Zheleznyakov, frankly, did not hide anything from anyone, people already saw everything themselves. He was insightful, had a phenomenal memory, besides, in his mind he could perform arithmetic operations with incredibly large numbers. Without cheating a bit, this man managed to play at different rates, from 10 to 1000. And losing less, he always ended up with more in his pocket. It was for this that, after several years of successful activity, he was no longer allowed into large casinos not only in our country, but also in the world. Such people, who were powerful analysts and insightful theorists, were very disliked by companies that make money on people's excitement. Roulette, the "one-armed bandit", even a simple lottery, which by no means could be predicted (and this does not take into account card games) - all this, thanks to Zheleznyakov's attentiveness, accuracy, sharpness of mind, always brought him a big jackpot.
Counters in the game world
Since we are talking about how gambling establishments treat such unique people who are able not only to lose their money, but to do it with a profit for themselves, it is worth delving into this topic.
Zheleznyakov Valery Lvovich - a mathematician, as already mentioned - never felt the desire to rob not only a person, but even the institution itself to the skin. He could calculate in advance in his mind a bunch of combinations that would promise him a positive outcome. It was for this trait that he, like other such geniuses, was called a "counter" - someone who really skillfully calculated all the moves, despite the actions of a roulette wheel or a croupier.
Black cards
Counters were not only not loved, they were also forbidden to play. With regard to anything - from the card "Fool" to Black Jack - the owners of the casino understood that in any case it was they who would suffer the losses. Especially for such dangerous players, some “black cards” were introduced into the gaming world - a guarantee of saving casino funds, because thanks to such cards, people whose names were written on them were kept away from the playing table for several meters.
Zheleznyakov was issued more than 20 black cards in different casinos in different cities of the world.
Flip Fool Tournament
In 1997, to be more specific, on December 3, a competition took place that turned a man's life upside down. He was challenged. And not someone there, but a real multiple champion in the game of throwing "Fool" - Albert Minnullin. All the action was supposed to take place on the territory of the Cosmo Hotel, and all the expenses, as well as the cash prize, were decisively undertaken by the organizers of the event. And the prize was worth fighting for - the owners of the hotel offered $ 25,000 as a reward to whoever wins intournament victory. They played until one of the participants had 15 wins. There was a fierce confrontation, and Zheleznyakov had to play the last game on fully viewed maps (Minnullin's influence and friendship played a role). But even this did not stop him from pulling out a victory and becoming the champion of the game of throwing "Fool" in 1997-1998.
Skipping poker away
Being a strong player in all card games, Zheleznyakov did not like only … poker. Perhaps the question will come to mind: why? But Partizan can also demonstrate his opinion on this matter. Zheleznyakov argued that in order to play poker, you don’t need to be super smart at all, you don’t need to shuffle a lot of combinations in your head. Like any person with mathematical inclinations, Zheleznyakov was pissed off by the unreasonableness of the win, his incomprehensible alignment. Until old age, Valery Zheleznyakov repeated that in order to beat even very strong poker players, you can be a beginner in the card business, because this game is not based on strategy and guessing intentions, but on luck. Yes, everything is so simple, and that is why the theory that you can explain almost everything in the world fails. The man believes that gambling is by no means meaningless - they should be such that there is really something to think about in order to “stir up” your mind. The same strategy of Valery Zheleznyakov in roulette - where, it would seem, it is impossible to predict events, he does it.
Gaming addiction: a disease or..?
There are too many disputes not only in the gambling world, but also in the ordinary one about whether gambling (gambling addiction in a different way) is a real disease that requires some kind of treatment or even medication. Zheleznyakov Valery Lvovich, whose biography is literally replete with games in various "kingdoms of excitement", has his own opinion on this matter.
He believed all his life that gambling is not a disease at all, but rather a failure to comply with internal moral principles, when there is an opportunity to stop, but it will never be used. The irresponsibility of people, their frivolity about their own future - that's what actually leads people to gambling establishments.
Online casinos and their need
If we talk about gambling, we should not forget that people, wanting to satisfy their thirst for excitement, may not even leave their homes. For such lazy and at the same time "inveterate" players, there are special Internet platforms, which are called online casinos. However, according to Zheleznyakov, at the peak of their popularity, such types of spending money will not last long. Online casinos are places not only for lazy, but also for self-respecting players. There is a great difference: to play in a professional casino, decently dressed and with a slight smile on your lips, with the eyes of ingratiating waiters and cute waitresses, or to play at home. Of course, at home, half-naked and not so hot what a hairstyle on his head. A professional will definitely go to a gambling establishment himself.
Cooperation withtelevision
And here is an even more interesting fact from the biography of the one who calls himself none other than Partizan. Zheleznyakov participated in sharp stories for television programs a couple of times. One of his most striking performances was his appearance as an opponent in the Good Morning project, where they decided to shoot a story about game addicts. Of course, Zheleznyakov did his best to convey to the people at least a fraction of the truth that gambling is not a disease that needs to be treated, but a matter that is addictive and from which it is then difficult to get out.
Unfortunately, only a few phrases of the “guru” of card skill himself got on the air, and most of all the phrases of Zheleznyakov's opponent, who was an ardent fighter for a he althy lifestyle, were inserted. In frustrated feelings, Valery left the shooting. And yet, after a while, he was again invited to the program with Andrei Malakhov, which he did not get to because of the busy schedule of game parties in other countries of the world.
Attitude towards psychics
Another amazing fact from Zheleznyakov's biography. We are talking about his complete skepticism regarding such a science as extrasensory perception. Of course, it is difficult to understand that everything that happens is not a dream for you, but quite real, but for those who like clear answers to questions, this annoys even more than rounding the number "Pi" to 3.
Once Zheleznyakov even entered into a dispute with one of the psychics to bring him to clean water. No one knows the results of the bet, one thing was clear: both hated each other even more, plus Partizan was readylose your life if you lose. Whether it was serious or not is unknown…
Last years of life
Still he althy as a bull, Valery Zheleznyakov by 2010 noticed a deterioration in he alth. The man began to have heart problems, but he still loved to travel to new casinos: he played in some himself, in others he looked at the game without taking part in it. In any case, the hero of our story did not part with the casino until his death. Valery Lvovich Zheleznyakov died in 2015, on September 6.
The world will forever remember the man who completely broke the stereotypes that casino players are complete liars.
