Reviewing a variety of series, in addition to the main plot, you can always notice the presence in the film of a certain secondary meaning. At the same time, according to the signs deliberately left by the creators of the film, one can only partially capture the essence. And these very signs can be very different, for example, the names and surnames of famous personalities. For example, in the most sensational science fiction series called "Lost" or "Lost" Jeremy Bentham is very often mentioned. Who is that? How does it relate to the plot of the film? And what season is it mentioned in?

A couple of words about the series itself

"Lost" is a well-known robinsonade, as well as a popular dramatic and mystical series at the same time. It has only 6 seasons, in each of which the crashed passengers fight for their lives. One of them meets a certain Jeremy Bentham.

According to the plot of the series, passengers flewon a snow-white liner through Sydney in the USA. However, the unexpected happened, and the plane crashed on one of the most mysterious and frightening islands in the boundless waters of Oceania. Throughout the series tells about the fate of each of the participants in the flight, about his past and future life. The series is replete with mysterious and chilling scenes, and also contains elements of drama and romance.

What season did Jeremy appear in?

Jeremy Bentham was first mentioned in the seventh episode of the fifth season, as well as in the 93rd episode of the series, which aired on television in February 2009. The series, which deals with this character, tells about the life and death of Jeremy Bentham and has a similar title.

So, in the center of the plot of this series, we see John or Jonathan Locke, who later received the pseudonym Jeremy Bentham. Recall that this is one of the key characters who survived the plane crash (Oceanic-815 flight). As planned by the authors, initially this person was paralyzed and could not move independently. However, after he hit the island, motor functions were fully restored. As a result, he was able to fully walk without anyone's help and even felt some kind of mystical connection between him and the mysterious island.

A brief history of Locke's fate on the island

John Locke, aka Jeremy Bentham, was a consummate hunter. For the same reason, it was he who was engaged in the extraction of food in the camp, which was set up by the surviving passengers on the coast of the island. As it turned out, this is chaotic andcontroversial personality with bright qualities of a leader. However, this did not prevent him from partially betraying his wards and defecting to the side of the so-called Others (local residents who arrived on the island much earlier). It was he who was involved in various events, for example, which led to the explosion of two stations "Flame" and "Swan" at once, as well as in the deaths of several people.

A brief about the plot of the episode, where Jeremy Bentham ("Lost") meets

According to the plot, John Locke ends up in Tunisia. It is there that our hero is redirected after he has turned the coveted wheel of time. He comes to his senses and sees that he is lying on the pavement, and there are a lot of surveillance cameras around him. A broken leg makes it difficult for him to get up, and he frantically starts calling for help. The driver of a pickup truck loaded to the eyeballs with unfamiliar people responds to his call. They lift the victim and gently place him in the back.

So John Locke or, as he is called here, Jeremy Bentham (his biography will be described below) goes to the hospital. During the procedures with leg straightening, the hero faints from pain.

After he wakes up, he runs into the former leader of the Others and a fairly we althy businessman, Charles Widmore. It is this moneybag who tells the hero about their long-standing acquaintance, which happened 50 years ago. At the same time, John himself is sure that this meeting took place only a couple of days ago, and not when he was only 17 years old.

He convinces John that they have common goals and offers to return to the island, having previously found six people who are notlong ago managed to leave this unfortunate crash site. As confirmation of his intentions, the rich man gives the stunned John money, a dossier of all six lucky ones and documents in the name of Jeremy Bentham. According to Charles, he chose this pseudonym because John's parents named him after the philosopher, and Bentham also had similar interests.

Search for six people

John spends a lot of time and effort searching for six people who escaped from the island. However, all his persuasion to return does not lead to the desired result. Other heroes do not want to hear anything about the island, and even more so - about returning there. Having lost all hope for the realization of his plan, John decides to take his own life by hanging. The current leader of the Others comes to his aid. However, after revealing certain information, he self-chokes Locke and leaves the crime scene.

Incredibly, the deceased Jeremy Bentham ("Lost" - one of the series where the name of this philosopher is mentioned) survives and again ends up on an island where no one remembers him. The hero himself knows everything. Later, he understands how he got on the plane, and what was the reason for his return from the dead …

He later graduated from Westminster School, Queens College and Lincoln's Inn (a school that taught law and other legal subjects).

At one time, this philosopher developed a unique plan for a prison building, which he called the Panopticon. This building was a kind of cylindrical building, equipped with internal glass partitions.

At the same time, the jailer was in the very center. He could follow all the prisoners, who, in turn, could not see him. And since the prisoners know they are being watched, but have no idea when exactly this happens, they try to behave appropriately at all times. Thus, they easily turn into ideal prisoners who do not disturb the order. By the way, something similar applies to the inhabitants of the island. They are aware of the observation and start behaving as the observer needs.

Jeremiah Bentham died when he was 84 years old. However, he was not buried. On the contrary, during his lifetime he bequeathed his body to science. Therefore, after his death, the skeleton of Jeremy Bentham was dressed in a suit and covered with a special wax mask. He is currently at University College London.
