And although in popularity it is significantly inferior to such styles as pop, rap and chanson (which is why heavy music is often referred not to mass culture, but to elite culture), guitar riff lovers continue to attend live concerts, wear bold things and listen every day your favorite music.

An important role in the development of the genre in the literal and figurative sense was played by American rock bands. The most famous of them will be listed below.

• In 1965, the whole world literally exploded when The Doors began to broadcast on radio and TV. Their style is psychedelic mixed with blues and acid rock. Young people, future rock stars, were born and raised in Los Angeles. In the 60s, their work had a tremendous impact on the entire American culture. Jim Morisson, the group's infamous vocalist, died of (according to one version) a heart attack in 1971. Since then, The Doors have becomeeven more popular. They are still being heard today. • Nirvana has been heard by almost everyone today. Many popular American rock bands were formed under the influence of the work of this team. The beginning of their work is 1987. They played grunge and released 3 studio and 3 live albums, as well as 4 compilations. Some of them came out after the death of the band's vocalist Kurt Cobain. In 1994, he was found dead in his own home. It is still unknown whether he killed himself or someone "helped" him, but many facts speak in favor of the second option.

Rock is a flexible concept. It includes hundreds of subgenres. It can be calm lyrical melodies, or crazy, "meaty" (as the fans say) tracks.

The last ones are the prerogative of metal. American rock bands were among the first to start promoting heavy music, so to speak, to the masses.

When there was no Internet yet (what's the matter, there were no CDs), many young people exchanged cassettes with their favorite music. In the 80s, in absolute favor with the majority were the legends of thrash metal - the band Metallica. It was formed in 1981. Their line-up changed several times, but this did not affect their work in any way, and they continue to release albums and give concerts to this day. Metallica is one of the so-called Big Four along with such giants as Slayer,Megadeth and Anthrax.

By the way, all four bands are American. There are quite a few similarities in their sound, but their creativity differs significantly. Kreator is also a thrash metal band. Despite the fact that it was formed in Germany, many attribute its style to the American school, since the guys sing in English, and their sound is more typical for groups formed in the USA.

And here is another "metal", but slightly less known band than the above. This is Type O Negative from Brooklyn. Their music is heavy, but lyrical. They have been playing gothic and doom metal since 1989. In 2010, the band was forced to cease their activities due to the death of permanent vocalist Peter Steele. Type O Negative have released 7 studio albums.
