His stepfather had two sons who became the boy's brothers (besides them, he had two siblings and a sister). As a child, Joseph Davydovich was a big bully. Once he made himself five tattoos in one day, so that the yard guys would not consider him a weakling, and then lay for several days with a temperature. At the age of 13, boxing became his biggest passion, and he achieved great success in this sport - he became the champion of Ukraine! After seven years of school, he entered a mining technical school, which he successfully graduated in 1956 and immediately joined the ranks of Soviet soldiers.

The future artist sang for the first time while still in college. In the army, he sang in the song and dance ensemble of the military district of Transcaucasia. And after the service, Leonid Tereshchenko became his first mentor, who prepared him for admission to the conservatory in Odessa. To earn his first money, he worked in a bomb shelter as a gas mask wiper. In 1958 he sang in a circus, in 1959 he became a soloist of the All-Union Radio, in 1962 - Rosconcert, in 1965 - Mosconcert.

The beginning of the sixties brought Joseph Davydovich real fame. In 1964 he became a laureate of the competition of performers in Poland, in 1965 he won first place in the international competition "Friendship". In the period from 1971 to 2004, he regularly sang in the finale of "Song of the Year". ATIn 1973, Joseph Davydovich graduated from the Institute. Gnesins and after 10 years became a teacher at his native university, and in 1992 he received the title of professor. For all his concert activity, Kobzon has repeatedly become a laureate of many national and international music competitions, has been awarded honorary state prizes, medals and orders, and has been awarded the highest titles that a pop artist can only be awarded. The singer has more than three thousand songs in his arsenal. In 2012, he ended his concert activity.
