Tsoi's grave and the memory of a talented singer

The grave of Tsoi - a rock musician, poet, composer and film actor - has become a place of real pilgrimage. People, young and not so young, bring flowers (sometimes cigarettes) here, stand, feel sad, sing his songs, and some, who consider themselves talented, also perform their own. Almost a quarter of a century has passed since the death of the artist, the fans have calmed down, but they have not forgotten their idol.

Like the wall in Moscow famous throughout the country, Tsoi's grave became the material embodiment of the memory that fans of the songs of the Kino group remained faithful to, who over the past decades have become mature people over the age of forty. The singer did not have a chance to step over the thirty-year milestone, he did not have much time.

The secret of the popularity of his works is not in the virtuosity of the vocals, the sophistication of the arrangements or the beauty of the melodies. His songs, sometimes with raw lyrics and unfinished musically, were in tune with the time, they expressed emotions close to the youth. Such spiritual unity is far more important than any other virtues.

Both in Russia and elsewhere, celebrity burial sites attract numerous visitors. The fashion for their work has long passed, remainedglory. The tombstones of Vladimir Vysotsky, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Jimi Hendrix are covered with flowers. Such posthumous recognition must be earned. Tsoi's grave clearly demonstrates that he succeeded.

It happened in the late summer of 1990. "Moskvich" of the latest model, donated by the producer Aizenshpis, raced along the road. On a winding turn in the area of Tukums (Latvia), the car suddenly entered the oncoming lane. By a tragic accident, the lane was busy, a bus was driving along it. A head-on collision with a heavy vehicle killed the 28-year-old singer.

Doctors, having examined the remains, came to the conclusion that Victor was sober, but lost control. The reason for the fatal maneuver will never be known with absolute certainty.

In 2010, Tsoi's grave (or rather, the monument on it) underwent restoration, which was carried out by his admirers-architects. They did it for free, on their own initiative, timed to coincide with the twentieth anniversary of the death of the singer.

Every admirer of the Kino group who lives in St. Petersburg or has been there will tell you how to find Tsoi's grave. To do this, you should come to the Theological Cemetery, then everything is very simple. On the central (Bratskaya) alley, one and a half hundred meters from the Church of St. John the Theologian, mountains of flowers stand out brightly.

On weekends, and especially on memorable dates associated with Victor's biography, a lot of people gather here. Visitors behave culturally, there are no incidents. Candles burn, songs sound, people are quietare talking. On weekdays, it happens that there is no one.

Idolatry and hysteria are alien to real art. Several suicides of fans of the Kino group that occurred immediately after the death of the singer indicate that they are not always sufficiently balanced. Unfortunately, people with an unhe althy psyche are often subject to mass psychosis. It remains to be hoped that Tsoi's grave will not become a place for the manifestation of sick emotions.
