The Opera House (Dnepropetrovsk) is relatively young. He began his career in the second half of the 20th century. Today, his repertoire includes operas, ballets, musicals, operettas and musical fairy tales.
History of the theater
The Opera House (Dnepropetrovsk) has existed since 1974. It was founded by talented creative personalities. These are Pyotr Varivoda, Lyudmila Voskresenskaya, Mark Litvinenko, Vasily Kiose and Anatoly Arefiev. It was they who gathered such a magnificent troupe, which has rich potential and endless possibilities. They brought together experienced adult artists and promising young people who had just graduated from choreographic schools and conservatories. To get into the troupe, it was necessary to pass a tough and strict competitive selection.
The theater has set itself two main tasks. The first is to popularize classical works. The second is to be ready to search and experiment. Therefore, the repertoire initially included classical operas with ballets and performances of modern genres - musicals, rock operas.
The theater from the very first years of itsexistence has started a good tradition - every year to give the audience several premieres. During the first two seasons, eighteen productions of different genres were presented to the public. The theater gained popularity almost instantly. He was recognized and loved by the audience. The critics were favorable to him. Although the city authorities treated his requests and needs very coldly, which led to a number of serious problems in the future.
Soon the troupe began to go on tour. Repeatedly and with great success, the artists performed in Moscow and Kyiv. Performances began to win awards at prestigious competitions and festivals. A wonderful art and production team has formed. In the 80s, the troupe was replenished with new young personnel, who brought freshness and novelty to the theater's activities. Ballets by S. S. Prokofiev and operas by Italian composers created during that period became landmarks for the theater. At the same time, classical operettas entered the repertoire.
In 1988, the Dnepropetrovsk Opera was honored to perform on the stage of the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre. In the Soviet years, this was the highest achievement.
But in the life of the theater, as in human destiny, there are not only ups, but also downs, losses and failures. The death of the people who were the founders of the Dnepropetrovsk Opera was a heavy loss, which led to a difficult period in creativity. Various leaders, directors, conductors, and choirmasters began to come to the theater and soon leave. The period of perestroika began, funding became scanty, which led to staff turnover.
But in spite of everything, the theater managed tosurvive hardships. The troupe was helped in this by the powerful potential that was laid by the founders. During the crisis years, when there were few spectators, artists began to travel abroad. These tours gave the theater a chance to survive. The troupe has traveled half the world, visited Portugal, Ireland, China, the United States of America, Belgium, Bulgaria, Spain, France, Italy, Poland, Germany, Israel and other countries. The crisis and difficult conditions have become an incentive to find new opportunities for life and creativity. The theater has become more modern. Under him, a choreographic studio was created, where professional education is given.
And today the repertoire remains multi-genre. In addition to performances, there are also concerts at the Opera House (Dnepropetrovsk). The troupe continues to actively tour various countries. Artists participate in competitions and festivals. For many years there has been a tradition in the theater - to cooperate with the best directors of the world. The most famous projects created jointly with other countries were the performances "Carmen" and "Turandot". In addition to classical ballets, the theater puts on choreographic performances in modern genres. This is jazz and neoclassical.
In 2003, a very important event took place in the creative life of the theatre. He received a high academic title. Another happy event happened in 2004. A conservatory was opened in Dnepropetrovsk, thanks to which the city itself will now educate future personnel.
