There are two figures in the picture: an angel who came to announce the good news to Mary, and the Mother of God herself.

This picture was painted quite recently - in 2005. It belongs to the contemporary Russian artist Andrey Shishkin.
It is interesting that the author somehow combines classical painting and the traditions of Russian icon painting.
In front of us is the seated Virgin Mary, reading a book. An angel approaches her from above and holds out a lily to her. The face of the angel is young and calm, Mary is somewhat surprised. A draped white scarf is slightly falling off her head, which is in harmony with her blue attire.
The picture itself immerses viewers in an atmosphere of beauty and grandeur of the biblical story.
