Only ten years ago on the stage of the theater. Vakhtangov began to play Florimond Herve's operetta "Mademoiselle Nitush". Another re-reading of this story by the renowned Moscow band proved once again that the light genre is a rather difficult thing. Vakhtangov's "Mademoiselle Nitush" can be compared to a very delicate cream cake. Just one awkward movement of the hands is enough - and all its fragile grace will be forever destroyed, and from a rough touch, all the roses and leaves will immediately turn into an unsympathetic mess.
Boring quality factor
Vladimir Ivanov, who staged countless performances on the famous stage, always tried to make them distinguished by a special quality factor and quality. Vakhtangov's "Mademoiselle Nitush" is a benign spectacle, although perhaps a little boring for those who do not like long gatherings in the theater, because the duration of the action is almost four hours. But the time spent in the hall, no waycannot be considered wasted, because right in front of the audience an extraordinary love story unfolds: for the stage, the prima donna, the music, the choirmaster and the young lieutenant.
What is it about
Who has forgotten the intrigue of this operetta, let us recall. This is a classic plot of the French situation comedy. A beautiful pupil of the boarding school for noble maidens named Deniz has long cherished the dream of the theater. One day, secretly from her strict boss, she manages to get into the local variety show for the premiere of an operetta, authored by a monastery singing teacher.
It is there, by all the rules of the genre, that she meets her love in the person of Lieutenant Champlatro. To this happy and life-changing meeting, a girl’s debut is added: she replaces the local prima donna, who has kicked up on the basis of jealousy. The result of this story is universal happiness and three weddings at the end of the play.
Revived legend
The play "Mademoiselle Nitush" is probably one of the most musical and elegant works performed on the stage of the Vakhtangov Theatre. Florimond Hervé's operetta about a young pupil of a boarding school, rushing with all her might to the stage, where she will replace a capricious prima donna and fall in love with a guardsman, is a real legend within these walls. Indeed, after the war, Lyudmila Tselikovskaya herself shone in this performance - beautiful and incendiary. Until now, viewers of a very advanced age remember with what pleasure they absorbed every movement of her hands, every turn of her head, the sound of her voice …
"Mademoiselle" or"madame"?
But in the new reading, “mademoiselle” can most likely be called “madame”: the actress playing her role is not very young, and she has plenty of tediousness and a little slow pace. Despite the fact that the actress who initially plays Deniz is really talented (everyone knows her very well, this is Nonna Grishaeva), this particular role is not the most successful for her. Later she was replaced by Olga Nemogay, but even with her prettiness and youth, the beautiful Georgian from the television version, Iya Ninidze, stands before her eyes.
In this production, with all the diligence of the director, actors and other stage workers, everything was too much: too much innocence, too much bitchiness, too much tearfulness, too much stupidity.
And one more thing: it's a pity that for all the shortcomings, the light and interesting play "Mademoiselle Nitouche" is practically devoid of author's music. Indeed, it is strange: in Herve's operetta there is almost no music by Herve himself, but there is a lot of music by unknown French composers. This is somewhat strange and, unfortunately, all the charm and general mood of the story is lost. But… It's a director's decision that you can't argue with.
Vakhtangov's "Mademoiselle Nitush" was decided to play in a pure genre (this is a very commendable decision of the director). But in this case, the entire set of vaudeville stamps was needed, which the actors (with the exception of Aronova) lacked. Indeed, for almost four hours it is quite difficult to fall out of the blue, hide behind curtains, fainting, portraying passionate love … Undoubtedly, Vakhtangov's actors perfectly master the techniques of the easy (but in fact - very difficult) genre. But the length of the performance lubricates their skill a bit.
Let him just tell me: “You are more beautiful than any dream…”
If in the television version the hostess looks refined, very modest and secretly in love with Maestro Celestin, the operetta “Mademoiselle Nitouche” by Vakhtangov shows her completely different. The actress, who has been playing her for several years, has simply cosmic energy. She is good in every stage appearance: when her jokes are somewhat vulgar, and even when she just stands silently on the stage. This is her, actress Maria Aronova.
The way she showed the head of the boarding house "Heavenly Swallows" - touching and whispering, expansive and bespectacled - will make even the most strict viewer laugh out loud. She has a completely unique comic gift. Yes, and the image created by her gives additional bonuses - an immense ass, a hare bite, a red bun. It is Maria Aronova who is able to make the audience laugh with those tricks that her stage partners unsuccessfully try to squeeze out at least a semblance of a smile.
Impressions of what I saw
You can see and feel the play "Mademoiselle Nitush" in completely different ways. Reviews about it are also very different. Some admire the indescribable play of talented actors - Alexei Zavyalov (now deceased, unfortunately), Vladimir Simonov, ViktorDobronravova, Olga Nemogay, Lydia Velezheva, Alexander Oleshko…
Others are sure that the work of Vladimir Ivanov is similar to a respected decent lady who, for unknown reasons, suddenly found herself in a brothel and, not understanding the rules of behavior in it, behaves (just in case) much freer and more swagger than the inhabitants, living here for a long time. This category of viewers believes that actresses wag their asses too much, actors have too horsey laughter, they all puff eyes and shout too loudly.
And yet, the play "Mademoiselle Nitouche", tickets for which can be purchased even without leaving home, via the Internet, is very kind, funny and musical. Even after its only viewing, each viewer instantly revives faith in something bright, sincere and warm.
