Future Empress

On the island of Martinique at the end of June 1763, a girl, Marie Joseph Rose, was born into the family of an ordinary planter, Joseph Gaspard de Tache. Everyone called her Josephine. When the future Empress of France turned sixteen, she was married off. As her husband, she got Viscount Alexander de Beauharnais. The couple moved to Paris, where she soon had children. After the appearance of heirs, Alexander practically abandoned his family, led a wild life, not considering it necessary to hide it.

So Josephine lived for about fifteen years. During the French Revolution, the couple ends up in prison. After some time, Josephine is released, and her husband is executed.

Fateful meeting. Napoleon and Josephine

Beginning to live a high life, the widow de Beauharnais was actually dependent on her lovers, since she did not have her own means of subsistence. One of them, Paul Barras, having decided to get rid of his mistress, introduced Josephine to a young nondescript officer, Napoleon Bonaparte. The latter was poor, six years younger than Marie Rose, but an unknown force attracted them to each other. After accepting an invitation to dinner from a beautiful Creole woman and spending an evening with her, Bonaparte was fascinated by her for the rest of his life. They became lovers, and then spouses, changing their age on paper. In early March 1796, the wedding took place, and Napoleon and Josephine became husband and wife before God. Bonaparte gave his beloved a sapphire ring. Inside the ring was an engraving: "This is destiny."

Josephine retains the title of empress at the insistence of Bonaparte. She gets the Élysée, Navarrecastle, Malmaison and three million a year. Coats of arms, escort, guards and all the attributes of the reigning person were left to her.

For the remaining five years of her life, the ex-wife has been collecting art, as well as growing various exotic plants.
