It's been a decade and a half since the day when Yuri Klinskikh, the permanent leader and founder of the famous musical group, left this world. But the members of the Gaza Strip, their names and their work are not forgotten by grateful fans of the musicians. Many are interested in what people are currently doing who were related to this significant musical and social phenomenon. But to answer these questions, you need to go back to the very beginning of the project.

Some facts from the history of the rock band

It is generally accepted that all significant phenomena in the world of show business have a metropolitan residence. But contrary to this popular belief, the future members of the Gaza Strip met in the provincial Voronezh. In its industrial Left Bank region, because of the abundance of smoking pipes, it is jokingly referred to as the "Gaza Strip". It was this name that Yuri Klinskikh took for his group founded in December 1987.

He became known to the general public under the creative pseudonym Yura Khoi. At first he performed solo concerts, but gradually other members of the Gaza Strip group joined him - bass guitarist SemyonTitevsky, drummer Oleg Kryuchkov and guitarist Sergey Tupikin. This was the first composition of the popular team, formed by the end of 1989. In the future, it was repeatedly updated.

Unexpected takeoff

Both the leader and the members of the Gaza Strip hoped for the success of their work. But, by their own admission, they did not expect to become famous outside their hometown. However, that is exactly what happened. The group's music quickly gained popularity not only in Voronezh, but throughout the Soviet Union. And after its collapse, it was listened to with interest throughout the post-Soviet space. It was interesting and relevant, if not for everyone, then for many. From among those who spoke and thought in Russian - "From Moscow to the outskirts, from the southern mountains to the northern seas."

But for many in the early nineties it came as a surprise - Gaza Strip, a group whose members learned to play musical instruments while performing on stage, suddenly appeared on the first lines of the charts and ratings.

Punk rock

The music of "Gaza Strip" was very characteristic of the beginning of the so-called "dashing nineties". She clearly stood out even against the background of the work of numerous rock bands at that time. Music criticism defines this style as punk. It will not be an exaggeration to say that in the post-Soviet space the members of the Gaza Strip group were the pioneers of this trend. Musicians reflect life in their worksocial lower classes from the urban outskirts.

Among other things, their music was accompanied by very brutal lyrics with an abundance of profanity. Often, she was characterized by black humor and an appeal to folklore imagery: from Russian folk tales to Hollywood vampire gothic.

Critics and fans

For a whole decade on the Russian music scene there has not been such a scandalous phenomenon as the Gaza Strip. The members of the group, whose photos often adorned the front pages of the yellow press, were constantly in the center of attention of the most diverse public. For many, especially for the older generation, the songs of the Gaza Strip caused a sharp rejection. But a number of authoritative music critics found deep folk traditions in the group's work, dating back to traditional urban farce culture and medieval fair buffoons.

But it ended abruptly. On July 4, 2000, members of the Gaza Strip group were left without their leader Yura Khoy. He died in Voronezh while filming a video clip for his song. Ambulance doctors stated cardiac arrest due to drug intoxication.

After the Gaza Strip

Despite the tragic death of Yuri Klinsky, the remaining members of the Gaza Strip group for a long time refused to recognize its history as completed. Numerous teams toured the country, in whichmusicians of the last composition of the group - Vadim Glukhov, Igor Zhirnov, Igor Anikeev, as well as those who played in the "Gaza Strip" before them, took part. The names of the touring bands in every way emphasized the continuity of the musical phenomenon that gave birth to them - "Ex-Gaza Sector", "Gas Attack Sector", "SG". However, none of the followers of Yuri Klinsky managed to repeat his musical and commercial success. The public is always subtly aware of falsehood and has a cool attitude towards epigones who exploit other people's achievements. The death of Yuri Klinsky was not the last among the musicians of "Setora Gaza". Not so long ago, guitarist Vadim Glukhov died under mysterious circumstances. He froze in the winter forest. In recent years, Glukhov performed as part of the Butyrka chanson group, which performed songs on prison and criminal topics.
