Dramatic performances filled with feelings, avant-garde discoveries in the art of dance, imbued with the achievements of classical Russian choreography - this is the Boris Eifman Theater today.

People's Artist of the Russian Federation, winner of many honorary and prestigious awards and prizes, Eifman created his "Ballet Theater" back in 1977.

First it was the "Academy of Ballet", which over time, thanks to the efforts of the artistic director, has turned into an internationally recognized, admirable audience, lively and constantly evolving theater, into a real ballet galaxy.

Feelings and reflections in dance plasticity

Boris Eifman once said: "What I'm doing can be called a dance of emotions, a free dance, a new language in which classical, modern, ecstatic impulses, and much more are intertwined…"

The dancers of the troupe had a hard time when a new choreographic language of dance was created along with the ballet theater.

Eifman speaks this language with a person who is able to feel and think, conveying through the plasticity of forms a stream of emotional and philosophicalorientation. Visual images can evoke a spiritual response in the viewer, striving to comprehend the unknown after the artist's fantasy.

According to the literary canvas

The most recognizable feature, the cornerstone of all the performances of the ballet theater in St. Petersburg was their literary basis, the plot of the production, which interprets famous works of the classics in its own way.

The literary outline of the performance allows, according to Eifman, to discover new sides in a long-familiar. His reading, author's view and original interpretation of historical twists and turns and the fate of famous brilliant people gives the audience truly unforgettable dramatic performances about Molière, Tchaikovsky, Rodin…

Newly placed accents in a story told through dance work wonders:

  • this is always deep psychologism;
  • visible forms;
  • encrypted dreams and fantasies that mix fiction and reality on stage, metaphorically revealing the depth of the characters of the production's characters.

The future of theater

The Eifman Ballet in St. Petersburg is constantly evolving. For more than thirty-five years, residents and guests of the northern capital have been delighting with masterpieces of choreographic art.

However, for many years the theater did not have its own stage.

The Decree of the Governor of St. Petersburg in January 2011 approved the creation of a new educational institution - the Academy of Dance. Building completed at the end of 2012for the Academy, which is located in the block between Bolshoy Prospekt Petrogradskaya Storona and Bolshaya Pushkarskaya, Liza Chaikina and Vvedenskaya streets.

Teaching rooms, teachers' offices, auxiliary areas of the Academy are located on 12,000 square meters. The building has 14 ballet halls, accommodation for students, conference rooms, a complex with a swimming pool for sports and physical activity, a modern dining room, a media library, and a medical center.

The Academy and Ballet in St. Petersburg is an example of a socially oriented project. This is a real laboratory of creativity, playing an undoubted and beneficial role in the cultural life of St. Petersburg.
