History of the theater

This theater was founded in 1946. It was called at that time the Moscow Drama Theater. Directed by the theater director Sergei Mayorov. Kozakova and A. B. Mariengof "Golden Hoop". The troupe was assembled from actors from other theaters and graduates of the Shchepkinsky school. The repertoire then included performances staged based on plays by contemporary playwrights: “Poddubensky ditties”, “Deputy”, “A man with a briefcase”, “Professor Polezhaev” and others.

For 11 years, 45 premieres took place. But this did not prevent the theater management from being blamed for the insufficient number of modern plays on the stage. In 1957Sergei Mayorov was transferred to the Lenin Komsomol Theater, and the director was removed from his post. In the same year, Ilya Sudakov, one of the best students of K. S. Stanislavsky. But soon he fell seriously ill and was replaced by A. Goncharov.

In 1962, the Moscow drama received a new building, according to which in 1968 - the new name "On Malaya Bronnaya". The theater is located in this building to this day. The building was built in 1902. It was a tenement house for needy students.

In 1967, Anatoly Efros took over as chief director. He brought with him a group of actors from the Lenin Komsomol Theater. A. Dunaev was appointed chief director. Thanks to these people, the theater has become interesting and one of the most visited in Moscow. The basis of the repertoire was made up of classical plays: "Romeo and Juliet", "Three Sisters", "Don Juan", "Othello", "Marriage" and so on.

From 1978 to the present, the position of director of the theater has been occupied by Ilya Kogan. During this time, many managed to visit the main directors. But no one stays long, because they can't work with the theater director.

The theater on Malaya Bronnaya has been showing the legendary play by Leonid Zorin "Warsaw Melody" for several years, but to this day this love story gathers full houses. The audience is very fond of this performance. The artistic director of the theater Sergey Golomazov acted as a director. The leading roles are played by young actors of the new generation Yulia Peresild and Daniil Strakhov,known for their work in films.
