Reviews

Basov Nikolai is a controversial writer. On the one hand, fans of classic fantasy like his books: the narrative is sequential, logical, without a thousand necessary and unnecessary events on each page. And because of this, novels can seem boring to the modern reader, even boring: they lack what is now commonly called the word "action".

Enough of other shortcomings. For example, the novel The Game of Magic was criticized for poor development of the world, cardboard-template characters, and flaws in style. Moreover, even the author’s fans remained dissatisfied, who fell in love with Basov forseries about Lothar.

However, there is no need to be zealous with criticism. Basov Nikolay writes rather for older teenagers, and male teenagers. So for an intelligent lady of an elegant age, the author's novels may not seem very suitable for reading. Whereas her grandchildren might be absolutely delighted.

The author's books are hardly worth reading for women - this is a typical heroic fantasy about brutal and courageous heroes, fighters against global evil and particular cases of injustice, and about what path you need to go to become this very hero.

In general, as already mentioned, for boys 14-16 years old, these books will be the right choice. But more mature and sophisticated readers will immediately find thousands of shortcomings, because of which they can stop reading these particular books: there are many works in the same genre, but written with more talent, the stereotyped characters and the recognizability of the storyline, the discrepancy between various details of the story and real facts, primitiveness of the main idea, etc.

But if the reader clearly understands what to expect from such a book and he wants to read something from the classic "correct" heroic fiction, where a lonely hero saves everyone and everything, then Nikolai Basov's books are one of the best options.
