Comedy of horror: both scary and funny

One of the main film genres, comedy intersects quite easily with other genres such as detective, fantasy, adventure and horror. A horror comedy is a film in which comedy episodes are organically combined with horror fragments, parody films are often referred to this subgenre. The fact is that original fear is as strong an emotion as joy. Horror movies evoke this powerful emotion.

After watching such a movie as a horror comedy, the viewer is fully satisfied, because he was both amused and well frightened, and in general these sensations are similar. Moreover, the development of this genre is favored by the introduction of 3D technology. Pay attention to the announcements and posters: what is now in 3D? Fantasy, fairy tales, horror films, that is, those films where special effects are needed, and there is something to show. Shooting a comedy in a newfangled format is like throwing money away. But to frighten is another matter: it is interesting that something crawl out of the screen, jump out. And in this case, a horror comedy is an ideal option: fun and spectacular. Nevertheless, despite the flexibility and infinity, the inexhaustibility of plots and themes, a decent horror comedy is not at all easy to shoot. The specificity of the genre requires ingenuity andhigh skill from the entire creative team: from the scriptwriter and director to the actors.

Blackish Cocktail

The main component of horror comedy is the familiar black humor, to which the lion's share of cynicism is added. Therefore, most often the entire comic effect consists of unveiled mockery of death itself, physical and psychological disabilities, that is, one or another macabre theme. Often, an excess of black humor brings the essence of the picture to the point of absurdity. Such black humor is characteristic of mainstream Hollywood directors: the Coen brothers "Barton Fink", Robert Zemeckis "Death Becomes Her", Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs" and, of course, Tim Burton's "Corpse Bride". The best horror comedies make fun of even sacred or untouchable themes, like Edgar Wright's Shaun of the Dead. The genre of comedy horror includes many different films, from the film by R. Polanski's "Dance of the Vampires" to the painting by Nobuhiko Obayashi's "House".

Comedy-horror, the list is almost endless

From the latest creations of cinema, I would like to highlight the following films, proudly called "horror comedies":

1. "Killer Vacation" (2010). In the story, a group of careless students (traditionally) will have to face representatives of a cruel redneck.
2. "Welcome to Zombieland" (2009). The USA is suffering from an invasion of bloodthirsty zombies, a group of survivors decides to make an amusement park their stronghold, at the same timehave a blast.
3. "Scary Movie" (1, 2, 3, 4). Once again, the plot revolves around a motley bunch of students who are being chased by at least a strange serial killer.
4. Night of the Living Jerks (2004). Three assholes perform a voodoo ritual, returning home, get into a car accident. Waking up in the morgue, they realize that they have become zombies.
5. "My babysitter is a vampire" (2010). The main characters will have to fight against the vampires who have seized their school and city.
6. "Faculty" (1998). Great moving film. Aliens are trying to take over the college, students will have to unite and fight their converted teachers - a dream, and only.

Not superfluous in the presented list will be: “Critters” all parts, “Planet Terror” (2007), “Blood Feast 2”, “Evil Dead 3” (and 2 too), “Operation Dead Snow”, Zombie Strippers.
