Literature is, first of all, art. The artist creates his masterpieces with the help of brushes and paints, the musician plays notes, the sculptor cuts the stone… The tool of the writer and poet is the word. The usual one that we all use all the time, communicating with each other, passing this or that information.
But for a word to really become a tool of art, it must be in the skillful hands of the creator. We, of course, consider the classics of world literature to be such: Victor Hugo, George Gordon Byron, Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin … But besides the great ones, there are writers worthy of our reader's attention, our contemporaries, whose books we often cast aside with some contempt.
But among the writers of our century there are many talented people whose works you read with great pleasure. So, maybe you should take a closer look at them and find an hour or twoto the study of modern literature? We suggest starting with the Russian writer of our time, Elena Khaetskaya.
Biography of the writer and personal life
She is known by various names. Her pseudonyms include Madeline Simons and Vladimir Lensky, Elena Tolstaya and Yaroslav Khabarov, Daria Ivolgina and Douglas Bryan. And Elena Khaetskaya was born with an interesting, poetic surname Agranat. It happened in St. Petersburg, then Leningrad, in 1963. Elena studied at Leningrad University, successfully graduated from the Faculty of Journalism (she worked in her speci alty for several years). In the year of graduation from the university (1986), she married Vyacheslav Khaetsky. Unfortunately, they did not live long - in 1993, the husband died tragically. From her husband in the arms of a woman, a five-year-old son Vladimir was left.
Four years after the death of her first husband - in 1997 - Elena Khaetskaya decided on a second marriage. This time, her chosen one was a man from literary circles, Taras Witkovsky, who later became a co-author of the writer. In addition to common books, the couple also has a joint child - daughter Aglaya.
To this day, Elena continues to write, her original books and translations are loved by the Russian reader. Khaetskaya's works have found their niche in contemporary Russian literature.
Awards
The best confirmation of recognition is, of course, the large circulation that Elena Khaetskaya's books come out with. However, the writer boasts not only this, because she is the winner of many popular literary awards. To the numberThe author's awards include such as "Bronze Snail", "Filigree", "Sword of Rumata" and many others.
Debut
The writer's biography of Elena Khaetskaya began in 1993. It was then that her first book, The Sword and the Rainbow, was published. This novel was published in a series of books by foreign authors, and therefore the writer was forced to replace her name with the pseudonym Madeline Simons. "The Sword and the Rainbow" by Elena Khaetskaya was warmly received by readers and immediately gained popularity. This is a fantasy book about the adventures of the young hero Helot of Languedoc, who diligently tries to become a real knight. Many adventures fall to his lot: in the course of the story, he finds true friends, fights against evil forces, meets his first love.
The work is written in a simple, understandable language, even new words invented by the author, denoting the realities of the fantasy world in which the action of the novel unfolds, do not cause complications. In addition, the text is full of dialogues, bright events, interesting characters, so it will be easy to read the work even for a child of school age. Later, Elena wrote several more works in the fantasy genre.
Ten years later
By the way, in 2004 the second part of the novel was published - the work "Haldor from the City of Light". Unfortunately, due to a long break in the publication of books, it is difficult to perceive it as a continuation of "The Sword and the Rainbow". Fans of the first part of the dilogy have grown, their priorities, preferences inliterature. Perhaps for this reason, "Haldor of the Bright City" did not become as popular as the first book in this series. However, if you read both parts one after the other, then a whole picture of the protagonist's adventures in his special world is built.
Books
Elena Vladimirovna Khaetskaya writes for all ages. Her creative baggage includes fantastic books, for example, the novel "The Sword and the Rainbow", which we have already talked about, the cycle of stories "Isangard and Coda", which tells about the adventures of a man and a sandy creature (these stories have an interesting combination of plots and motifs from mythology of different peoples). Such books are especially attractive for children and adolescents who like to immerse themselves in fictional worlds, to be transported into a non-existent reality. Eventfulness, adventurous beginning, colorful images - all this will allow you to relax while reading, relax and just have fun.
About serious…
Khaetskaya also writes historical works, where there is no place for fantasy, but there are important remarks and reasoning. It is necessary to think over such works, to analyze every detail. The unprepared reader, of course, will also be interested in them, but he will not find in them the depth that the author has laid in them. So, in the cycle "Warsaw and the Woman", the first story of the same name was published in 2005, Elena Khaetskaya discovers in herself not only a subtle psychologist, but also an attentive historian, because the events unfold against the backdrop of the German occupationduring the First World War - nothing can be faked and embellished here, otherwise a lie will come out, which the reader will immediately see through.
The writer also refers to more ancient historical epochs. So, her famous novel "The Kingdom of Heaven" is dedicated to the times of the Crusades, wars between different orders "for a just cause".
…and not so good
In contrast to serious prose, Elena Khaetskaya has a cycle of short stories "Small Absurdist Prose". It contains quite playful short stories, more essays and sketches on extraordinary topics. From one of them you will find out what your portfolio is thinking, by reading the other - you will become a witness to a real riot of sandwiches.
Thus, each of the readers can find among the works of Elena Khaetskaya what he likes.
