Even atheists in a troubled hour of loneliness and sadness are saved by prayer. M. Yu. Lermontov was not a deeply religious person, although he received a classical religious upbringing, he never asked the Lord for a better life, he alth, prosperity, but nevertheless, in especially difficult times, he tearfully prayed so as not to completely lose faith in his life. Some events prompted the poet to write his own prayer. This work made the author completely rethink his life, and although he did not become a believer, he nevertheless ceased to be an inveterate skeptic and atheist.
In 1839, when the poet was 25 years old, he wrote the poem "Prayer". M. Yu. Lermontov lived a short life, so this verse can be attributed to the late period of creativity. By this time, Mikhail Yuryevich had been in exile, his worldview, attitude towards society and poetry had changed. His works have becomemore wise and philosophical. When the writer returned from the Caucasus with the rank of cornet of the Life Guards, he rethought his whole life, in which he had previously had to play the role of a brawler or a secular lion. He understands that he cannot change anything in this world. It is because of his own impotence that Mikhail Lermontov turns to God.
"Prayer" was written after meeting Maria Shcherbakova at one of the social events. Mikhail Yuryevich has always been a rebel and first he did things, and then he comprehended them. The Caucasus reassured him a little, the poet was imbued with Eastern wisdom, and although he did not resign himself to his fate, he gave up senseless attempts to prove to people their worthlessness and stupidity. In Moscow, the writer attended many social events and frankly enjoyed the attention that his person aroused from representatives of the finest status. Despite the large number of fans, M. Yu. Lermontov paid attention only to the modest and young Maria Shcherbakova.
Prayer is the salvation of a person in the most difficult moments of life. It was about this that the girl told Mikhail Yuryevich. She argued that only in a sincere appeal to God could he find peace of mind and balance. The poet remembered her words, of course, he did not go to the temple and did not begin to read the "Ps alter", but after talking with Mary, he wrote the poem "Prayer". M. Yu. Lermontov does not ask God for anything, does not repent and does not self-flagellate, he simply cleanses his soul from impotent anger, sadness and longing.
From time to time the poet was tormented by doubts whetherhe will continue to be fond of literature, achieve his goals, or all desires and aspirations are only self-deception. But there were people with a similar worldview, these are Vyazemsky, Pushkin, Belinsky, and Mikhail Yuryevich understood that he was not alone. Tearful prayer helped him get rid of doubts and find spiritual support.
M. Y. Lermontov prayed fervently with a feeling of repentance in order to be cleansed of experiences and unhappy thoughts, and this really helped. The poem "Prayer" is an attempt to strengthen faith in one's own strength and come to terms with the path destined by fate. Lermontov repents of his own weaknesses and asks for forgiveness for hiding his true feelings behind a mask.
