The film industry is gaining new momentum in styles, directions, editing features and the specifics of graphic effects. Today, filmmakers have learned how to make really high-quality, solid films. More and more new, interesting and extraordinary films appear at the box office, and the action-packed lines and the amazing ability to shoot incredibly realistic shots amaze the viewer's imagination. Among the films there are those that you want to watch again and again, frame by frame, finding something new and previously missed for yourself. But most of all, viewers are attracted to those tapes that are viewed from beginning to end in one breath. Movies with an unpredictable ending in the popularity ratings are in the lead in almost every country in the world.
In one of his interviews, the director of the famous thriller "I Spit on Your Graves" Steven R. Monroe once said: "It doesn't matter what emotions the plot of the movie arouses in the viewer. It is important that the viewer, in principle, be emotional, experience a flurry of varioussensations. Whether they are positive or negative is not the point. According to Monroe, it is important not only to attract the attention of movie lovers, but also to touch their souls, touch their feelings, hook the strings in their minds. Watching a movie, the viewer should feel a sharp emotion: indignation, surprise, experience, excitement, awe. If the directors and screenwriters succeeded, then we can assume that the film is successful.
Over the past couple of decades, the world has been presented with many interesting stories watched by movie lovers with an unpredictable ending in one breath. The list of the best of them, according to the public, most often includes psychological thrillers with a dramatic unexpected denouement.
10. "Pandorum"
The list of the most popular and watched in one breath films with an unpredictable ending opens with the work of director Christian Alvart. It has the most positive and even rave reviews. The film "Pandorum" in 2009 did not become a novelty among its own kind: the theme of open space and the idea of resettlement of the planet Earth has already been touched upon by many screenwriters before. Mixing the fantasy genre with a thriller and a horror movie in one whole gave its result - many people became interested in the picture.
The plot of the film revolves around the global problem of humanity. The meaning is this: the future, the planet is gradually overflowing, the human race is on the verge of worldly catastrophe. And so, 60,000 people and a sufficient number of animal specimens are sent aboard the Elysium spacecraft to continue life on another planet suitablein all aspects of human life. The action begins with the fact that the main character, played by Ben Foster, wakes up in one of the sixty thousand capsules. Dennis Quaid, who plays the role of the senior astronaut, “wakes up” from hypersleep and, just like his colleague, looks around in bewilderment. While the memory and the meaning of their stay on the ship slowly begin to return to the main characters, the broken gearbox of the spaceship makes itself felt.
Spurred on by a limited amount of time and realizing that something went wrong in the idea of the initiators of the flight, the main characters face two more problems. The first is that there are other living beings on the ship, but these are not people … And the second is that in the conditions of fear of closed space and constant nervous tension, the characters who wake up from sleep develop a psychoneuroleptic disease - pandorum. Manifestations of fear, panic attacks, psychosis - all this is spurred on by the terrible atrocities of otherworldly creatures, which already leave behind traces of cannibalism and the most brutal reprisal against people on the ship.
How to survive in these terrible conditions? How not to die from a terrible disease? And how to prevent the attack of vile individuals that have bred throughout the space of the huge "Elysium"? If you want to know the answer - watch the movie "Pandorum" 2009
9. "Deja Vu"
Another action-packed blockbuster from the category viewed in one breath is the film "Deja Vu" (2006). Denzel Washington, playing an FBI agent, arrivesto the crime scene. The crime is terrible, the number of deaths is over 500. On one of the festive carnivals, a ferry with retired sailors and their families explodes on the river. The hero of Denzel Washington draws attention to the girl who, it would seem, died from the explosion. But during the investigation, the detective's inquisitive mind and intuitive instinct do not fail him in his opinion on the subject that the girl died earlier, before the explosion, and she is directly related to what happened.
Federal programming experts invite Denzel to test the latest technical equipment that can turn back the clock. The hero of Washington is assigned the task of returning four days earlier and trying to prevent what happened with the help of the Snow White program. Excellent acting, amazing and realistic special effects, an original idea - all this makes the viewer empathize with the characters and worry about how events will unfold in the future. Are you curious to know what is the essence of the finale of the film "Deja Vu" (2006)? Then hurry to view it.
8. "Moon 2112"
Another movie in a series that fans of outer space love so much. The fantastic tape, however, is strikingly different in its storyline from the previously mentioned film "Pandorum". The film "Moon 2112" does not belong to the horror genre, it is rather a fantasy drama, where director Duncan Jones touched upon the global problems of mankind. How he earned his film a place among the winners of the 2009 Sundance and Tribeca Film Festivals.
The plot unfolds onthe surface of the Earth's satellite on the Moon. Time is the distant future. At the Sareng mining base, an employee of the automated station Sam is on duty on a rotational basis. The company of a lone worker of the mining base is only a computerized talking robot Gerty, except for him on the moon - not a soul. Sam's three-year contract is coming to an end. All this time, he saw his wife and little daughter only through satellite communications on the monitor screen. Inspired by the imminent return to Earth, two weeks before the shift, Sam meets his replacement. Who would you think this changer is? Do not believe it - a clone of Sam.
An unexpected turn of events reveals horrific realities to the viewer: the authorities of the mining station clone people from shift to shift, thus ensuring the uninterrupted operation of their base for the extraction of rare gas on the moon. All this time, every three years, unfortunate people - clones of Sam - live with the belief in something that does not really exist. And after the “shelf life” of he alth, which, it must be said, is rapidly deteriorating from constant stay in an enclosed space and lack of natural oxygen, “Sam’s worked model” is eliminated, eliminated. To replace him, a fresh substitute wakes up from a long hypersleep - a new shifter, a new clone.
The picture caused a resonance, intrigued by its originality, an amazing turn of events. The author of the picture, Duncan Jones, brought to the surface not only the problem of slave labor, beggarly wages and appalling conditions in which modern people are ready to work for the sake of prosperity and well-being of their own.families. Among other things, the side of the negative attitude towards the capitalist businessmen-rulers, who are not alien to the killing of living people, introducing them into deception, exploiting living labor and using them as labor force, is clarified. Psychologically, the movie is strong enough, very interesting. Although this is practically a film adaptation of the game of one actor, the film "Moon 2112" was released with a resounding success. And still popular.
7. "Mistake of time"
A 2014 film about an extraordinary photographic machine capable of capturing a fragment of tomorrow once a day. Three young people - Finn, Kelly and Jasper - all live together in a country house. One day, they find this amazing machine in the house of their scientist neighbor, photographing the future. Over time, the guys begin to use it to their advantage - to earn money, leaving themselves something like notes on the window about tomorrow. So, looking at the photo, they always know what will happen tomorrow at a certain time.
It got to the point that the guys began to earn serious money: they made bets in a betting company and always won, of course, thanks to the miracle machine. But here's something that starts to go wrong: never-losing customers get the bookie's attention and the truth comes out. The guys have no choice but to "eliminate" the witness. This is where it starts…
The key unpredictable turn of events lies in the ending. It turns out that the camera took not one picture a day, but two: in the morning and in the evening at8:00 and 20:00 respectively. Nobody knew about it, except Kelly. She used the car to her advantage, trying to get Finn's attention to herself. To do this, she had to sleep with Jasper, and then kill both guys. Well twisted, isn't it? To understand everything, it is definitely worth seeing the film with your own eyes.
6. "Others"
Shot in the horror genre, the film reveals the essence of its drama only towards the very end. Grace lives in a mansion with her two children and waits for her husband to return from World War II. The house is huge, Grace hires servants - two women and a male watchman. Throughout the film, director Alejandro Amenabar immerses the viewer in secret rustles, creaking floors, terrifying visions, eerie images flashing in the constantly gloomy light of the mansion. And everything would have been painfully banal if it had not been revealed at the end that Grace was mentally ill. She suffocated her children with a pillow, after which she committed suicide. And now her spirit and the spirits of her children are haunting all those who are trying to move into the mansion. The Others (2001) stirs the mind with sharp moments and plunges into a sad state of compassion in its denouement.
5. "Time Loop"
The plot tells the viewer about fantastic time travel: Joe works as an "eraser", he eliminates people from the future who are objectionable to the mafia. The screen version of the film "Looper of Time" (2012) is full of bright special effects, amazing acting, a lot of passionsscenes. What was Joe's surprise when one fine day from the future to him on the "carpet" representatives of the mafia group sent him … himself, elderly and changed in appearance. Will Joe kill himself? Watch the full movie.
4. "Exam"
The 2009 film tells the story of a firm looking to hire a true professional. To do this, 8 people who have passed a rigorous selection are closed by managers in a room with a security guard and within 80 minutes they are looking for an answer to a question that was not asked. You need to answer something that was not asked. You can't go out, you can't talk to the staff. The participants in this game must come to the answer on their own, and the strongest will win.
Here, job applicants begin to show their true colors. Fights, set-ups and even the opportunity to commit murder for the sake of a career - all this keeps the viewer in suspense until the very end. The denouement is surprising in that among the members of the G8 is the director of the organization himself, who is looking for a specialist for an important position. Interesting? Then we advise you to watch this movie.
3. Mind Games
The top three in the ranking of the best films with an unpredictable ending opens with an amazing drama by Ron Howard. Another masterpiece of American cinema tells a story based on real events. John Forbes Nash Jr., the great mathematician of his time, did a great job in game theory. A genius with a mathematical mindset, he was ahead of his predecessors at times and opened a whole section in the scientific subject.
The plot of the movie "A Beautiful Mind" in 2001 pulls into the thick ofevents, starting with the moment when an FBI agent offers John a job as a codebreaker in a serious criminal case. By virtue of his amazing knowledge and ability to work with numbers, he gets involved in a stream of events that develop as sparklingly as he quickly gets bogged down in their whirlpool. What is the indescribable surprise that the viewer experiences, realizing that the FBI agent, student friend and little girl accompanying John throughout the storyline are just a figment of his inflamed imagination, fiction, the result of paranoid schizophrenia that befell a genius on background of his unique abilities. The film is worth watching, if only for the sake of feeling all these mind-boggling experiences of Nash, who is completely unaware of the duality of his consciousness.
2. "Perfect Escape"
Number two is a nerve-wracking tropical story. This is another amazing film with a completely unpredictable turn of events. Initially, the viewer is shown episodes with a young couple - Sidney and Cliff. Judging by their perky mood and talk of a honeymoon, the guys just got married and decided to fly to a tropical paradise for a vacation. During the next walk, they intersect with another young couple, who somehow slightly obsessively offer their company in the next forays into the local paradise grounds. Meanwhile, all the local newspapers are spreading information about two bloodthirsty killers, presumably a man and a woman, who kill married couples, rob themand live their lives… Are these Sidney and Clif's new friends?
No matter how. The 2009 film The Perfect Getaway leaves the viewer in silent shock with a dramatic turn of events: viewers are shown footage of one of the murders in black and white, where their faces are not visible at first, and as it happens, the focus is concentrated on the outlines of … who do you think? Sydney and Clif! It was they who bloodthirstily took the lives of the real owners of their names, pulled out their teeth and cut off the phalanxes of their fingers so that the corpses could not be identified. And then, taking their names, they used their honeymoon packages. Cool turn of events, isn't it?
1. Shutter Island
And, finally, the leader among chic paintings with an amazing denouement. This film has been on the leading positions among the best films with an unpredictable ending for nine years now. In the same breath, the famously twisted plot unfolding around the inhabitants of the Ashcliff hospital, located on a lonely gloomy island, looks like.
The protagonist, Teddy Daniels, played by the brilliant actor Leonardo DiCaprio, is a police marshal investigating the disappearance of a mental hospital patient and also wants to investigate the murder of his wife and children. From the first minutes of the main character's appearance within the walls of the clinic, the mind of the viewer is excited by its gloominess, ominous hopeless despondency, where it smells of conspiracy and terrible secrets. Everyone around is acting strange, as if they know something, but no one knows anything. He speaks. The mentally ill themselves look at him and react inadequately to meeting him - either they laugh, or they put a finger to their lips, symbolizing silence. And even the hospital staff does not show any respect for the policeman who came from the mainland to the island with his partner to investigate this complicated case. The film "Shutter Island" (2010) keeps you in suspense from the first episode to the last second of the film, leaving the viewer in a state of utter stunned after watching its ending.
The apotheosis of the entire action is reflected in the final ten minutes of the film. The main character suddenly realizes that he is not Teddy Daniels. He is Andrew Laddis, a patient at number 67 on the island of the damned mentally ill, who set fire to his own wife because she, being mentally unbalanced, drowned their two joint children in a pond. Laddis is scheduled for a lobotomy, but his attending physician, trying his best to save his life and believing in his sanity, imitated this whole performance with a policeman and a missing patient, only for Laddis to remember everything and accept the situation for what it is. Shutter Island (2010) is a film to be watched over and over again, carefully studying every detail in order to match all the events and put them together in a chronological sequence into a single puzzle.
