Minimalist paintings are an example of contemporary art. They are relevant in any season, regardless of what fashion dictates. Defining minimalism
The term itself appeared in the 60s of the twentieth century, as a designation of a small offshoot of postmodernism. As the name implies, the style of the paintings is characterized by simplicity. It is expressed in uncomplicated forms. Most often, the artist uses ordinary geometric shapes.
Besides this, in oil paintings in the style of minimalism there is a repeated repetition. It can be strokes, highlights or shapes. Many authors use monochrome (one or two colors). It's not always black and white. Sometimes one color is taken with differentshades. The picture is executed in such a scale. Some artists like to divide the canvas into color segments, such as sky and earth.
In general, minimalists try to convey the essence of the object, its symbolic meaning, as accurately as possible. In this case, the sign and secondary images are cut off completely or depicted as schematically as possible.

Today there are a lot of creators who create amazing things. As with any art, there are those whose names are known all over the world.
Frank Stella is one of the first artists of the genre. Already in 1959, he began to create a series called "Black Paintings". As the name implies, dark lines prevailed on the canvases. Frank was inspired to create such paintings by the works of Kazimir Malevich. His black squares and other geometric shapes (including the red circle) have inspired many artists to create similar masterpieces.
In the heyday of minimalism, many artists began to depict convex parts on canvases, thus improving the idea.
Carl Andre was no exception. His work is unique in its own way. He was one of the first to decide to create paintings through installations. Andre used everything he could find around Massachusetts. So, one of the works was made from industrial materials in a three-dimensional zone using negative space. Andre tried to put geometric objects into the basis of his work: squares, lines, angles, diagrams, and the like. History of Creation
Before understanding the peculiarity of this direction, it is necessary to trace where it comes from. Most of the theoretical artists are inclined to believe that Kazimir Malevich, as well as Marcel Duchamp in his books, gave rise to the basis of the movement. After that, a clear line between cubism and minimalism was drawn in the works of Frank Stella. After these masters, a wave of new artists appeared.
Minimalist paintings tend to depict the exact shapes and symbols of the subject. But at the same time, artists do not spend a lot of time creating details. Colors can have hard transitions, and the palette consists of only 2 shades. Cool white balance allows you to add mystery to the picture.

Neo-minimalism
Neo-geometric conceptualism arose only at the end of the 20th century, so this trend can be called absolutely new. The canvases of this direction are even more geometric (unlike paintings in the style of minimalism). Many art historians are still arguing about which era neo-minimalism is an offshoot of. So, you can hear statements that the movement is formed from pop art or even Suprematism, which was founded by Kazimir Malevich.

Postminimalism
Although the direction itself is already going beyond, this branch practices an even greater extreme. So, in the paintings of postminimalism, it is difficult to find a storyline or just an object. More often an artist tries to paint a state of mind, weather phenomena, or something else that cannot be expressed in another artistic direction.
The highest value of artists is to convey an intellectual idea. In postminimalism, everything changes, and the form of transmission comes first. Creating your canvas
