In 2000, the genius of the modern film industry, Paul Verhoeven, director of Total Recall, Basic Instinct and Starship Troopers, managed to surprise even the most sophisticated viewer. His fantastic thriller "The Invisible Man" (first plan actors: K. Bacon, E. Shu, D. Brolin) provides the viewer with a unique opportunity - to see the world around him through the eyes of a real invisible man.

Based on the novel by H. G. Wells

The name of the American-German sci-fi action movie with elements of a thriller has become another victim of domestic translators-adapters. The exact translation of the name of the picture is "The Hollow Man", it is based on the work of the world-famous writer HG Wells "The Invisible Man". But the brainchild of Verhoeven has no direct relation to the literary original. Kevin Bacon shines in the title role - he is the invisible one, the actors Elisabeth Shue, Kim Dickens, Josh Brolin only emphasize his charisma. The director, trying to cross the outstandingWells' creation with Robert Stevenson's novel "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" presents to the audience a bloody "washout" taking place in an underground secret laboratory, but the film ends with a happy ending, in which the traditionally good win over the bad.

Antagonist Scientist

As mentioned above, "The Invisible Man" is a film whose actors resignedly allowed the male lead to "pull the blanket over themselves". This fact is surprising, since the cast of the film is quite powerful. Taking into account the fact that the action mainly develops in the closed space of the underground laboratory, in the framemostly there are the same characters, embodied on the screen by Elisabeth Shue, Kim Dickens, Greg Grunberg, Mary Randle, Josh Brolin and Joey Zlotnik. But the ambitious genius in the performance of Kevin Bacon is inimitable. The actor, thanks to his extraordinary gift of reincarnation, is able to play both a positive and a negative hero, but in this case, his dazzling charisma outweighed the charm of all other movie stars at times. You sympathize with his hero, his character is the main tragic figure. This is where the original title comes from. The protagonist, rather, is not invisible, he is empty, having completely lost his human component: morality, spirituality. In comparison with him, the rest of the group of protagonist scientists is similar to laboratory gray mice. Should Kane not appear in the frame, the narrative becomes boring and uninteresting.

CV

"The Invisible Man" is a film whose actors, with the exception of Kane, were not able to fully realize their potential. The most interesting thing in the film, according to world film critics, is the virtuoso special effects that clearly demonstrate the transformation of a visible organism into an invisible one and vice versa. In this, the creators have outdone themselves. By the way, the experimental animal - the gorilla Isabella - was embodied on the screen by special effects specialist Tom Woodruff, the same one who played the Alien in the famous trilogy. Unfortunately, unlike the Russian comedy The Invisibles, whose actors and roles are known and dearly loved by the domestic audience, many who have watched Paul Verhoeven's fantastic thriller will not remember the names of his characters. Especiallyspecialist who played the role of the experimental animal.

Invisible-2

Director Claudio Fach in 2006 shoots a sequel to Verhoeven's film and decides not to be smart with the title, his project is called "Invisible-2". The actors involved in the first part, categorically refused to participate in the sequel. In principle, the second part has very little in common with the first episode, the only reminder of the tragic events covered in the first part is a short story about "molecular biologists who died several years ago." But the key to the success of the tape could be the appearance of one of the surviving characters of the first picture. Most likely, a modest budget did not allow attracting famous actors to the project.

Sequel ensemble cast

The main character, who is shown in the visible state only once, Christian Slater, is the invisible one. Actors Peter Facinelli and Laura Regan played the roles of a tough cop and a scientist hunted by an invisible man. The second episode turned out to be several times weaker than the original picture, not due to a change in the director or acting troupe, but due to the fact that the creators practically did not take the time to get to know the characters. Therefore, when, 20 minutes after the start of the tape, they began to be killed one by one, the viewer did not feel sympathy for them. Supporting characters appeared and disappeared, their role in the story of how the second invisible man appeared (the actors did not have time to reveal themselves) was minimized, and the leading actors looked very dry andsparingly.
