"Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" - a comedy cartoon that was released in 1988 and received three Oscars at once. The creators of the film were two of the most famous US film companies - Amblin Entertainment and Touchstone Pictures. The result is a rather cute family cartoon.
This animated film differs from all the others in that both live actors and "cartoons" - hand-drawn animated images were involved in it. The film begins in 1947 in Los Angeles, where "cartoons" live on a par with living people. Most of the cartoon characters live in Toontown, a special area of Los Angeles that was built especially for them.
Cartoon "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" tells about the life of "cartoons", who, like ordinary people, are forced to earn their living. Most of them work as actors in studio cartoons, but there are also those who work in ordinary companies in ordinary positions. And, of course, there arethose who earn money in ways that are not entirely legal.
Movie Budget "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" amounted to 70 million dollars. As of 1988, this picture became the most expensive project in the history of cinema, but in the future, all expenses paid off. The film grossed more than $150 million at the box office in US theaters alone, while the worldwide box office was much higher. The picture is unique because the cartoon characters created by different studios, for the first time appeared together in one film.
In Who Framed Roger Rabbit? there are scenes that were played by live actors under the direction of director Robert Zemeckis. All of them were filmed at one of the small studios in the English city of Hertfordshire. All cartoon scenes were filmed by Richard Williams at a studio in London.
The basis of the plot of the picture was the work of Gary Wolfe "Who Censored Roger Rabbit?", which the writer wrote in 1981. Screenwriters Peter Seaman and Jeffrey Price spent several months adapting the novel, after which they presented a version of the script to the directors and representatives of the film studio.
The painting "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" entered the treasury of animated films as one of the most controversial and grotesque films. "Toon" Jessica Roger, the wife of the protagonist, was created in the image and likeness of the most popular actresses in the history of cinema, and that is why she entered the toplist of the sexiest cartoon heroines of the planet. It must be admitted that she looks somewhat comical together with her husband, however, their love is able to overcome all obstacles and punish criminals.
There were only three real actors in the film: Bob Hoskins, Christopher Lloyd and Joanna Cassidy. All other characters were voiced by dubbing actors. Charles Fleischer and Kathleen Turner voice Roger Rabbit and his wife Jessica.
As a result, the picture "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" was released by Buena Vista Distribution, with huge support from Touchstone Pictures. In Russia, this film appeared only in 1995, and was broadcast on New Year's Eve 1996 on the RTR TV channel (now - Russia-1).
