William Saroyan was born on August 31, 1908 in Fresno, California (USA). His father was an immigrant who found his calling in winemaking. After his death, the future prose writer was forced to spend some time in an orphanage.

Private life

The writer was married to Carol Marcus, who bore him a son named Aram. A few years later, the family idyll comes to an end. The whole reason was William's gambling. Carol wants a divorce, and in 1949 Saroyan finally breaks off relations with his wife.

Maestro died on May 17, 1981 in the same city where he spent his childhood. In American Fresno, the writer found his last refuge. He bequeathed that his heart be buried at the foot of the majestic Mount Ararat, not far from the city of Bitlis, where his mother and father grew up.
