The beginning of the path to glory

Black Sabbath was formed by four members: Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. Initially, it was decided to call the team Earth, and it was under this name that the group released their first songs. It wasn't until 1969 that a new name was approved, and Black Sabbath's discography dates back to 1970. Together with the new name, the musicians also decided on the final style direction: their songs became a kind of analogue of horror films.

In the 70s, the career of the four British guys went uphill: until 1983, all the records released by the team went platinum in America and Britain. Black discographySabbath began with the album of the same name and the record Paranoid, after which the band's first US tour awaited.

Ozzy's Departure

Until 1976, the team was doing very well. The album Technical Ecstasy became a turning point, during the work on which Iommi and Osbourne had disagreements. Tony wanted to make the music more melodious and add a classic sound, while Ozzy thought it would be better to leave everything as it is and continue to play heavy metal. In the end, the band members nevertheless decided to change their musical style, and since 1976 Black Sabbath's discography has been replenished with more melodic records Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die!

In addition to the depressed state of the vocalist, the music was also affected by internal disagreements in the team, and the fact that all its members began to abuse drugs. Album Never Say Die! was criticized by the press, the musicians plunged into the abyss of a creative crisis and alcohol, and in 1979 Tony Iommi fired Ozzy Osbourne.

Black Sabbath & Dio, Ian Gillan & more

Ozzy was replaced by Ronnie James Dio, who previously performed with Rainbow. He brought with him not only a new sound, but also a completely different mood, and a different stylistic direction. It is interesting that it was Dio who introduced the rocker “goat” as his trademark greeting, and he did this during his work with Black Sabbath. The band's discography was enriched by two more albums, which later received platinum status: Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules. However, with Dio, everything is notit went so smoothly, and after a quarrel with other members of the team, the new lead singer left her.

He was replaced by Ian Gillan, vocalist of Deep Purple. He left in 1984. As Gillan himself later admitted, he did not plan to become the vocalist of Black Sabbath. It just so happened that during the next party with the members of this group, it was decided to work together. And Gilan himself found out about it only the next morning. The musician decided not to give up his decision, because he really liked the guys from Black Sabbath. The album Born Again was recorded with Ian Gillan.

From 1985 to 1995, the composition of the group was constantly changing. Ozzy and Dio alternately returned, new guitarists and drummers came and went, and even the famous Judas Priest musician Rob Halford was invited to take the place of the vocalist. Despite constant line-up changes, the band has been working on new albums all this time.

Reunion, Heaven and Hell and… reunion

Black Sabbath Discography (1970–1995) has eighteen studio albums and two live compilations. In 1996, the group reunited in its original line-up: Osbourne, Iommi, Butler, Ward. In their hometown of Birmingham, the band performed a concert as part of the Ozzfest festival, and new material from the rock concert was used to work on the album, which received the symbolic title Reunion.

From 1997 to 2004, the band members were engaged in their solo projects. New albums out from Ozzy Osbourne and TonyIommi, and in 2005 and 2006 Black Sabbath were inducted into the British and American Rock and Roll Halls of Fame.

In 2007, the group released an album containing songs recorded with Dio. After that, a new team Heaven and Hell was formed, which included Dio, Iommi, Butler, and Vinnie Appice. Ozzy Osbourne reacted extremely negatively to this event.

After Tony Iommi patented the name Black Sabbath, a lawsuit began between him and Osbourne for the right to use the label in their musical and concert activities. The dispute was only resolved after Dio's death from cancer in 2010. Ozzy and Tony Iommi signed an agreement stating that there were no more disagreements between them.

A year later, Black Sabbath's last album, 13, was released, topping the American charts, followed by the British charts. The group's return was a triumph, and the album "13" received several prestigious music awards at once.

Black Sabbath: Future Plans

At the moment, something is known aboutplans for the future of Black Sabbath band members. The discography (1970-2013) of the project is thus not finished. Within a few years, it will be supplemented with a new album, which is scheduled to begin work in 2015.
