The first monuments of Salavat Shcherbakov
One of the first creative projects of the sculptor was a monumental statue dedicated to Valentina Stepanovna Grizodubova, a Soviet pilot, Hero of the Soviet Union, participant in the Great Patriotic War. The memorial was erected on Kutuzov Avenue.
Just after this creation, the biography of Salavat Shcherbakov underwent drastic changes - he not only became popular and famous. The talent of the Soviet sculptor deservedly was appreciated by the Russian President. Since then, Salavat Aleksandrovich began to be involved in many cultural and political projects. The monument to Grizodubova was followed by other orders of national sound. These were monuments in honor of Pavel Petrovich Melnikov (a Russian scientist, mechanic and engineer, one of the authors of the railway project), monuments to People's Artists of the USSR - I. Military theme
On the theme of the war, Salavat Alexandrovich created many monuments and compositions that are distinguished by their impressive size and powerful semantic meaning. First of all, this is a memorial in honor of the soldiers-internationalists, erected at the end of December 2004 in the capital of the Russian Federation, in Victory Park.
The monument cast in bronze represents a young Soviet soldier (four meters high), standing over the abyss with a weapon in his hands. The figure of a soldier is placed on a red granite pedestal, which is topped with a bronze bas-relief depicting a fierce battle.
The monument was created with the support of the Moscow administration on its own donations from organizations of Afghan soldiers.
A year later, Salavat Shcherbakov created another monument depicting soldiers from different countries united in the anti-Hitler coalition. It represents four armed fighters, confidently looking ahead.
The same theme (the theme of strong and courageous people) can be traced in other works of the Russian sculptor dedicated to the Second World War. Interesting is the memorial complex, created by Shcherbakov in collaboration with three other gifted sculptors, in honor of the soldiers of the Red Army. It was erected in the summer of 2012 in Netanya (Israel). The memorial consists of two conditional parts, which symbolize not only the victory of the USSR over Nazism, but also the transition from darkness to light, from death to life, from despair to happiness.
Cultural Heritage
Among the striking works of Salavat Shcherbakov, dedicated to the cultural life of modern people, it should be noted the monument to Elizabeth Alekseevna, Princess Louise, installed in Baden-Baden, Germany in 2008.
Also noteworthy are the monuments to Vladimir Petrovich Shukhov (Russian architect, inventor, scientist) and Sergei Pavlovich Korolev (design engineer of space shipbuilding). The theme of space was reflected in another memorial composition by Shcherbakov, when he worked on the interior of the Moscow Museum of Cosmonautics.

Monument to the designer of firearms
The memorial composition to M. Kalashnikov was erected in the fall of 2017. The memorial consists of bronze and granite, is a five-meter figure of Kalashnikov in an ordinary jacket and with a machine gun in his hands. In the background there is a symbolic composition representing the Archangel Michael, striking an angry dragon with his spear, andEarth. The sculptural ensemble means that the Kalashnikov assault rifle is used all over the world to fight evil forces.
The construction and erection of this monument was accompanied by many popular unrest and protests. Not everyone liked that the sculpture is dedicated to military weapons. There were also those who were dissatisfied with the choice of location or the design of the project itself. Moreover, a mistake was found very soon after the creation of the memorial composition. It turned out that the pedestal of the monument depicts a drawing not of a Kalashnikov assault rifle, but of a German rifle.
Scherbakov's mistakes
Salavat Alexandrovich has made such mistakes more than once. For example, during the erection of a monument to Alexander I, statues of modern ammunition were found among old-style weapons. An identical error occurred with the monument "Farewell of the Slav", installed at the Belorussky railway station. But this does not detract from the merits of the famous sculptor to his Fatherland.
