This work opens the whole cycle of stories, and, consequently, the summary of Turgenev's "Notes of a Hunter". On a hot July day, the narrator got lost in the forest. After dark, he managed to go out to the night pasture, where he asked to spend the night next to five shepherd children: Fedya, Ilyusha, Pavlusha, Vanya and Kostya. Sitting by the fire, each of the boys told his story related to the meeting with one or another fabulous creature. Fedya tells that once, while spending the night at the factory, he met a real brownie. Kostya tells the story of the carpenter Gavrila, who met a mermaid. The Lord advised the carpenter to sign himself with a cross, the mermaid burst into tears and disappeared. However, in the end, she wished that Gavrila would always go sad. Ilyusha told about how the kennelYermil found a white lamb on the grave of the drowned man, who, after dark, bared his teeth and began to speak to him in a human voice. Then the boys talked about the fact that if you sit on the porch in the church on parental Saturday, you can see the deceased or one of those who will soon go to the forefathers. At this moment, Pavlusha returned and said that things were bad: he was called by a brownie. And Fedya added that the drowned Vasyatka had already called Pavel. The hunter fell asleep. When he woke up in the morning, all the boys were asleep. Only Pavlusha woke up and looked intently at the night guest. He silently threw it to him and went along the river. Pavlusha, unfortunately, died in the same year: the boy fell off his horse and killed himself.

Khor and Kalinich

Continuing to outline the summary of Turgenev's "Notes of a Hunter", let's move on to the next story. This, in fact, is an acquaintance with two completely opposite characters, who, nevertheless, managed to find a common language and become friends. Khor appears before the narrator - not a dreamy, prudent person who sees through and through their common master with Kalinych - Polutykin, who knows how to hide his thoughts, to be cunning, if necessary. Kalinich, on the other hand, is his complete opposite: it is important for him to maintain contact with nature, he is a dreamy, trusting person, not too well versed in people. Kalinich was well acquainted with the secrets of nature: he managed to speak fright and stop the blood. Khor, more practical and close "to society, to people," did not possess these skills. Nevertheless, Khor was attached to Kalinich and patronized him, as he felt himselfmore wise. In turn, Kalinich loved and respected his friend.

Yermolai and the Miller's Woman

Summary of Turgenev's "Notes of a Hunter" takes us further. The narrator introduces us to Yermolai - a strange person, carefree, talkative enough, seemingly absent-minded and awkward. Nevertheless, Yermolai had an excellent instinct for hunting and fishing. Having gone on an evening woodcock hunt, the heroes decided to spend the night at a nearby mill. The miller's wife Arina allowed them to spend the night under an open shed and brought them some food for supper. It turned out that the narrator knew her former master, Mr. Zverkov (Arina had once been his wife's maid). Many years ago, Arina asked the master for permission to marry the footman Petrushka. The master and his wife were offended by such a request, and therefore they exiled the girl to the village, and sent Petrushka to the soldiers. Arina later became engaged to a miller, who ransomed her.

County Doctor

Another interesting, albeit very simple, story that should be included in the summary of Turgenev's Notes of a Hunter. One autumn, during his travels, the narrator fell ill. He stays at a hotel in a county town. Trifon Ivanovich, a county doctor, is brought to him, who prescribes medicine for the hero and shares his story. Once the doctor was called to the house of an impoverished widow - in a note the hostess said that her daughter was dying and asked the doctor to come as soon as possible. Arriving at the widow's house, Trifon Ivanovich beganto provide all possible assistance to the sick Alexandra Andreevna, who suffered from a fever. Within a few days, the doctor takes care of the patient and begins to develop a "strong disposition towards her." However, despite all his efforts, Alexandra did not get better. One night, feeling that the end was near, the girl confessed her love to Trifon Ivanovich. After 3 days, Alexandra Andreevna died. After this story, the doctor himself married Akulina, a merchant's daughter, who had a bad temper, but had as much as seven thousand dowry.

How many amazing, diverse and dissimilar characters I. Turgenev managed to portray! The collection "Notes of a Hunter" can be called one of the best achievements of the writer. The hero of this story is Arkady Pavlovich Penochkin. Penochkin is considered one of the most educated people in the district, one of the most eligible suitors. His house is built according to the plans of an architect from France, he subscribes to French books (although he hardly reads them), his people are dressed in English fashion. The author does not treat Penochkin too well, but one day he is forced to stay with a nobleman for the night. In the morning they both go to the village of Penochkin - Shipilovka, and stop at the house of Sofron Yakovlevich, the local steward. Penochkin asks him about household affairs, and the steward says that everything is going as well as possible - thanks to the wise orders of the master, of course. Having traveled around the estate, the heroes see that exceptional order reigns everywhere. However, leaving the barn after the hunt, the heroes see two men - one young, and the otherolder. Those are on their knees and complain that they are tortured to the limit by the steward. Sofron has already recruited two of the old man's sons, and now he wants to take away the third. He took the last cow from the yard, and completely beat his wife. The peasants claim that the steward ruins not only them. But Penochkin does not even want to listen to them. A few hours later in Ryabovo, the narrator got into a conversation with Anpadist, a local acquaintance of a peasant. The narrator begins to question his old acquaintance about the Shipilov peasants. In response, he hears that the village only officially belongs to Penochkin, and Sofron owns it as his personal property and does what he pleases. The peasants are forced to work like farmhands, tirelessly, and Sofron profits from their work. The peasants see no reason to complain to the master: Penochkin doesn’t care, as long as there are no arrears.

Of course, the above stories are not all works from the cycle. However, after reading the summary of some of the creations, you can see how versatile and unusual Ivan Turgenev approached the depiction of the life of ordinary people. "A Hunter's Notes" is a cycle of stories that can rightfully be considered one of the most worthy and remarkable in the entire history of Russian literature.
